Guest guest
Smokie I had this surgery in 1999......I was in a back brace for 4 months and I could not do anything. This surgery was more of a recovery than my previous lamenectomies.. (i had two previous to my fusion) It's a long road to recovery, and I spent a week and a half in the hospital because I developed an infection after surgery.. My surgery was 5hrs long because they took bone from my hip with fixation rods and cages.. Guest guest
I had my surgeries in 1991-1992-1993. I was in the hospital for a week and a half. The surgeries took ten and a half hours. I had to have bone grafts off my hips. Then I had to stay in bed for six weeks. My surgery was done before the cage. I had two steel plates and bolts like tractson bars on a car. Now I have three broken rods in mt lower spine. My spine was very narrow where the rods were at. The surgeries are some better since the cage.Mine were done at Baptist Hospital in Nashville Tennessee. I live in pain every day. I were pain patches and take lower tabs three or four times a day. I can't ride in a car more then ten miles sometimes before my hips and leg start killing me. My surgery's all went wrong. I also had a right shoulder fusion. I got hurt while working for the Sheriffs Department here where I live. We were tiring to restrain a inmate. Just check your Doctor out really good before you let them cut on you. My doctor told me I was the only one that had any trouble after my surgery. I met a guy at my church that had the same doctor and he had the same problems. Then I found out that my doctor had third teen law suits. Sorry about my spelling its hard to think sometimes. I will pray for you. Guest guest
spinal problems I had a L-4/5 fusion, surgery took almost 7 hours, they used donor bone, rod and screws, hospital stay was 5 days. Home with a brace that made me look and feel like a turtle, hard front and back, from hips to just above breasts. I wore the brace for 6 months. No physical therapy. Recovery took a little over a year, but I didn’t feel good until about 6 months into recovery. The first six months was spent thinking “what on earth did I do to myself?” After the firs six months, I saw improvement…slowly…but did start to feel better. Now I am on a daily pharmacy regimen of anti-inflammatory and muscle relaxing medications, but am off all narcotics. Still have good days and bad, but am able to do more than I could before the surgery. HTH --- smokie1952 <smokie1952 (DOT) com> wrote: Has anyone had L4-L5 & L5-S1 fusion ? Guest guest
How bad as far as pain and suffering is a fusion compared to a laminectomy, say on a scale of 1 to 100? If a laminectomy is 10, is a fusion slightly or a lot more? I would be interested to hear what other people say too. todegaard0646@... wrote: Smokie I had this surgery in 1999......I was in a back brace for 4 months and I could not do anything. Guest guest
How much better would you say you are now compared to before surgery? Did you need narcotics before surgery? How long has it been now since surgery?
