Hi ...

Interferon is for the treatment of Hep C.....not AIH....the only people I have ever heard of being on this med is ones with Hep C....Please ....your mom needs to seriously change her doctor if he is thinking of using this med for her AIH.....

I do talk to people with Hep C on another site and it is not an easy treatment....

I have never....NEVER ....heard of it being used for people with Auto-immune disease....

Is your moms doctor a GI with liver as a speciality ...or his he a Hep doc....make sure she is seeing one of these specialists....and if they are and they are thinking of using this med then she needs to go to someone else.....

Could you tell the site you talk to people on about Hep C. My husband has it and has been on the new drug Pegetron injections and rebetrol. Interferon is the old med for Hep C. He just had a viral load test and is Hep C free now. He took the meds for 6 months. 6 months of hell but it was worth it. he has severe cirrhosis too. Now they hope the liver will repair itself a little now that the Hep C is gone. They still aren't too sure if it will return. We are crossing our fingers.
