" They take the actual thyroid hormones out and just leave tissue behind. If you are chained to the TSH, you will probably get closer to an effective dose with a T4 only medication rather than Armour. These do not suppress the TSH as much as one with T3. If you are convinced Armour is the best treatment, you need to find a new doctor. Chuck

Either way, I was confusing it with the Nutri-meds version. Please mark that on your calendars, if you are keeping score. Nature-Throid is a product of Western Pharmaceuticals, which also offers Westhroid. Both are full potency dessicated thyroid products, just with different binders for those that react to one or the other. Both are pretty equivalent to Armour, which comes from Forest Pharmaceuticals. I don't use any of these products and hope that will help you excuse my confusion. Western has been around for more than half a century, so they are probably as consistent in dose as Armour, or at least consistent enough for the FDA. The key difference between these and Nutri-Meds is that full potency products require a prescription to be legal in the U.S. If a desiccated thyroid " supplement " is sold over the counter without a prescription, it must have had most of the T4 and T3 removed. The few that I have encountered invariably have other ingredients advertised to " support " the thyroid. Most of us are well beyond " support " and need " replacement, " which the OTC products can't do. You were also quite right about breathing problems being thyroid related, particularly sleep apnea, which I have: http://www.drlowe.com/jcl/comentry/breathingproblems.htm Chuck > ?? > Gracia > > , > > You wrote: > > > > ... I was on Synthroid for about two years, then switched to the generic. The key is to fine tune the dosage. Too much or too little of either type will make you sick.
