Guest guest
Hi Kam~I was thinking this morning about telling you that you might want to take your pillow with you the ones at the hospital aren't the greatest and I felt more comfortable with mine...I take it everywhere with me. About the perm....I would ask your doctor before you do that, mine said NO WAY! Not before or after the surgery because of the anesthia, no color either! My hair was below my shoulders before the surgery and it is really really short now. Thats the thing about cutting it short I end up not being able to stop. I am off to NY for my 6 mo. check up! Talk to you soon! Have a great day! Suzieadvokam <advokam@...> wrote: Thanks, Suzie.I have thought about the haircut and am still pondering what style will suit me best post-op. I've been growing my hair out - usually keep it pretty short - because I love to wear it in dog ears. I would like to let it get long enough to braid that way cuz I thought that might be easy...OR, I can chop it all off again, but then I would have to dry it every day because my "cow licks" require such when my hair is short. I've also considered a perm but it's been ten years since I've done that and I don't think I liked it last time.I, too, have extremely sensitive skin and am very careful about what I put on it. Fragrance is almost always a no-no and to top it off, I have oily skin - complex combination! Great suggestion to make sure I am stocked on those "special" products... and I remembered when I read it about the lips - so true!We are snackers anyway - I'll make sure we have plenty of our healthy snack bars and breakfast bars handy.Ah, socks! When I had my first or second surgery, someone bought me a stuffed apple with a cute little face and arms & legs and a fabric pen and everyone who came to see me signed it. It's still around somewhere. That was kinda fun, but too hard to track for practical purposes. My husband has a journal with him 24/7. I have one as well, just not 24/7. Maybe I will buy a "special" one for the trip.As for the hair removal stuff, my skin is so sensitive, it makes me nervous. Maybe I'll test a small area and see how it goes...Thanks again, Suzie! Super suggestions!kam
Guest guest
Suzie... I've never heard of any conflict with hair color, perms, and anesthesia. Do you know what specifically the problem is? I've had colored hair during lots of anesthesia. -- > Hi Kam~I was thinking this morning about telling you that you might want to take your pillow with you the ones at the hospital aren't the greatest and I felt more comfortable with mine...I take it everywhere with me. > About the perm....I would ask your doctor before you do that, mine said NO WAY! Guest guest
Kam, Glad to see you are doing so well! Bonnie [ ] Re: Kam Hey Cam!Yes, I am definitely on the mend. My surgery was only two hours and the doctors say everything went very well. I am anxious to see my x-rays.As far as how I feel... I was on a constant drip of Dilaudid (hydromorphone) plus a pump for breakthrough pain again after surgery until yesterday morning. Dilaudid is the med that my mom says "changes my personality" and I think she may be right. Adam wouldn't say she was wrong... They stopped the constant drip yesterday and gave me Darvocet - surprisingly, it helped the pain quite a bit and I was MUCH NICER and felt MUCH CALMER with the Darvocet. This morning, they reduced the pump meds and started me on Oxycontin again. Oh, and of course, I started my period on Friday night around 2 a.m. Oh Joy. Fortunately, the catheter came out this morning, which has been a huge relief.Occupational therapy stopped by this afternoon and she was quite impressed with all I can do. She said I do seem to be following my precautions pretty well and that my mobility is very high - especially right after anterior surgery. The incision still hurts a lot and she said that PT will be working with me to get out of bed without assistance since I won't have any when I get home. I told her that I still have a few days to get to that point and wasn't in any big hurry since it is SO painful (maybe not what she wanted to hear, but the truth!).Dr. Bridwell says I should be discharged on Tuesday (we'll see) and we'll be staying in the apartment we rented in December as it is available. This was great news! This afternoon my pain has been worse (especially around the incision) and just a few minutes ago, I found out that I can still take the Darvocet. I hadn't been asked if I wanted any at all today -I guess you are just supposed to know this stuff! Now, I am feeling really weak like I need to eat something. My nurse is going to check and see if I can have something (she's also bringing me a Darvocet). We'll see about sustenance. The only other thing to report is that I have some numbness in my right foot. It started between my big toe and the second toe. My foot was quite swollen after surgery and I wasn't sure why. There was a blue line under my big toe and we thought it might be a result of how they had me positioned during the surgery. The swelling is down, but the numbness has spread over the last couple of days. I guess time will tell what to make of it.So now mom and I are going to walk a bit and then I am going to sleep for as long as I can! I hope you all had a pleasant weekend.kam
Guest guest
Kam I just read your post and I can't believe you are up & posting again. I hope I do half that well. We have been invited to a huge family wedding on the beach in NC the end of June & I am determined to get there. ( Just made my reservations! ) We will have to compare pain med notes as time gets closer. As for the one that makes you crabby, I don't think my family would notice! Menopause has made me a crazy lady!! But at least I'm still fun. Take care. I hope you get out of there real soon. Nan

Guest guest
Thanks, Suzie. I am feeling better. Being out of the hospital helps a lot as well! Now if this foot numbness would go away... I hope your procedure goes well. The name makes it sound like they are going to make you less sympathetic. Hmmmm. kam > > Hey Kam~ > I just saw your post to Carla and was happy to see that the doctor switched your medication!! Are you feeling a bit more level now? I hope so! > I just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you and praying that you have a better go of things with your new meds! > Easy does it! > Suzie > > > --------------------------------- > Brings words and photos together (easily) with > PhotoMail - it's free and works with your . >
