Guest guest
I'm sorry, but I still don't see what is so wrong with Dallas. Dallas IS a hub. It might not be all that exciting, but it is pretty close to the center of the US. North Carolina is usually difficult to get to and expensive to fly to. And yes it IS pretty, I've been there. Guest guest
Wilmington's airport is much closer but because it's not so big, will require a stop in Charlotte, Atlanta, Philadelphia or New York. Then it would be almost a two hour drive, but an easy drive (no traffic, no pot holes). And it's a wonderful airport. As for the site-seeing I mentioned in my earlier post, in Beaufort or New Bern or Wilmington, I meant it for anyone who wanted to extend their weekend. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I had to giggle, 'cos, naturally, tho' I am sure N.Carolina is lovely, I, too, was thinking it was no easier to get to than the health retreat up in Vermont(my suggestion a little while back). And they were going to tailor a program for us, with people experienced in living with fusion and scoliosis. Have " we " discovered another trait of scoli-folk, along with pain tolerance, patience,etc...? Why do we have such a problem with committing to a definate place and time to get together? To me, Dallas does make more sense than North Carolina or Vermont, just so you know. But Las Vegas, which I THINK was where we voted for last year (Am I wrong?), still seems like the best locale. It's a small city with a big city feel. It has a whole lot of stuff to do without wasting time and energy to get there. It has deals ALL the time for airfare and hotel rates. It caters to seniors (which we are not yet)and with our backs need similar considerations. Well, folks, I already know I will not do North Carolina, if you are making a list. Three hour drive from the airport seems a bit much, especially if I have had to switch planes more than once just to get to Raleigh. Peace, Marty --- " txbluebelle " <txbluebelle@...> wrote: I'm sorry, but I still don't see what is so wrong with Dallas. Dallas IS a hub. Guest guest
Hi Group, Clearly I spoke too soon about this retreat and didn't really clarify what I was thinking. Nothing is on the table beyond my looking to see if there is a venue in a nice setting that might interest a few of us and offer an opportunity to do some specific work, perhaps yoga or aquatic therapy. Thats all. I am leaving the country in July. That means whatever I am arranging would take place before then. I don't see this as the same as the Las Vegas proposal and I was not planning on taking votes. I thought I would see what kind of a program I could put together, figure out the costs, and put it out there. If someone else is interested in putting something else together, Dallas or anywhere...they are welcome to do so...I would be very glad to attend. I looked for wellness sites throughout Texas and didn't see anything that was suitable, mostly because the nice venues were pretty pricey. I believe the kind of retreat I am thinking of lends itself to an environment that is more restful and natural than Las Vegas. If I can't make another site work, I might try to arrange it for right here on Nantucket. I understand that no one is going to be happy with any one site/price/program. I was just taking it upon myself to try to put something together that will probably only be within reach of a portion of our membership....but I figure better something than nothing. It will have to be less than the $1800 fee of the Vt site. As a point of comparison...the retreat site mentioned looks like generally the costs of accomodations and food are very modest. I am guessing 4 nights would be well under $500 and permit enough of a budget to bring in some teachers. I will let you know if I find something that I think will work. Thanks for volunteering Bonnie. So far they haven't even answered my email...so this may be a moot discussion. I am sure it is a very popular venue. Guest guest
Dear Cam, Thank you for exploring this for us, with so much on your plate with your big move I am amazed at you trying to plan something like this. I'd love to come and be among you guys, and this venue with somewhat lower prices appeals to me since I'm on a pretty tight budget. Anything I can do to support you by helping, know I'm there. Guest guest
Cam, I hope you can put together a lovely retreat before you leave in July. Honestly, I am not interested in a " wellness " type retreat or in one that involves sight seeing or doing. I just wanted to get together and meet some online friends.
