Guest guest
, I understand what you are saying in regards to you trying to get help from DrHu. I know that she was doing what all the surgeons seem to do. .....I am just saying that it seems " wrong " to me that all of these surgeons must know that depression is likely in their patients, and they also know that depression accentuates pain...so I just don't understand why they don't do one of those " quickie " depression screens at the first postop checkup. I can understand that they do not want to become mental health professionals, but they are doctors...and I know if my surgeon did a quick assessment and told me that I must get under the care of a psychologist to treat my depression, I think I would have done it immediately. I don't think it is all that uncommon for a PCP to miss depression, or underestimate it, but that is why there are doctors that specialize in it. I know most of these guys/gals would not hesitate to insist on their patients seeing a pulmonologist, or an ifectious disease doctor if they thought that the surgery they preformed precipitated a physical problem, so why don't they take a more proactive role in directing patients to proper care for depression that the surgery they did brought on? I don't mean to get on my soap box. I know that I preach to the choir! It just bugs me how often members have had to go through what you did and each time it seemed so unnecessary in retrospect had the surgeon simply considered it part of their post op " check list " . Anyway, you are laughing now my friend...and that is all that matters. Congrats again, Cam
