Guest guest
Hi Kim... It's definitely OK to ask for more than one. While I think the references are worth contacting, I doubt that any surgeon would ever put a patient in touch with another patient who wasn't very satisfied. To get a real feel for a surgeon's reputation, see if you can find other patients in your area. The National Scoliosis Foundation forums have a place where you can post a surgeon's name and ask for references: http://www.scoliosis.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=115 Regards, > > Hello! Guest guest
Kim, DrRand's office gave me two people to contact while I was considering surgery. DrBoachie's office would not give me names until I had scheduled surgery. I felt both were/would give me names, not so much as references, but as a chance to talk to others who had been through the surgery/experience. Having access to the " boards " I went back and found patients on my own who were willing to talk to me. I figured that would help moderate the effect of speaking with patients that had only had good outcomes. On my final visit with DrRand I asked him to tell me about his worst outcome/problem with someone similar to me. Yes, it was a somewhat uncomfortable question to ask....but I would put it on your list. Take Care, Cam

Guest guest
Dr said he could give me names of patients to talk to. He also said that EVERY doctor would have names of patients that were happy and patients that were not happy. > > Kim, > > DrRand's office gave me two people to contact while I was considering > surgery. Guest guest
Sharon, To tell you the truth, I can't remember the details...whatever he said it seemed so minor in the scope of the things that I was aware of that could happen...whatever it was.. it was resolved satisfactorily. I encourage you to ask the same question...especially since in the scope of things, my surgery was a lot less complex than yours! Guest guest
Thanks, Cam! I guess that doctor's do not like to talk about their worst outcomes. I am sorry that Dr. Boachie's office would not give you names until you scheduled surgery when the point was to help you decide. I assume that Rand referred you to other flatback patients.
