Guest guest
Jan, Who said anything about " cure " ???? All I said was not to state that these substances are the equivalent to " snake oil " . gees Pam janjv1311 <janaina@...> wrote: They are if someone is marketing them as " cures " . DHEA is helpful if you have a deficiency, so is selenium, and coconut oil is excellent healthy fat that will increase metabolism, but none of them will " cure " thyroid disease. Guest guest
I disagree with you Jan and agree with /ithyroid. I think it's just incomprehensible to blame epidemics of disease on " genes " . Also as a nation we have far more chronic illness than other countries. Guest guest
Actually for me coconut oil, DHEA and selenium have all been great help. Remember that snake oil actually had therapeutic properties! EFAs! Guest guest
when you need meds it's because the glands weren't working well in the first place. Medicine doesn't cause the glands to atrophy! In most cases meds allow the sick gland to rest and heal. Guest guest
The environmental factors might just be the stress factors that mentioned that make the disease appear. Or maybe there is no genetic link. My position is NOT that hypothyroidism is genetic, just that 's argument of WHY it can't be genetic is a stupid, stupid argument. So far it has not been proven conclusively to be genetic or not. Jan > > I disagree with you Jan and agree with /ithyroid. Guest guest
Ella, Dr. Phil actually apologized for his comments about thyroid sufferers. (there's actually a really funny letter that a thyroid sufferer wrote to him that I once saw on the internet - I'll try to find it). He believes that a small portion of society is overweight due to medical issues, including hypothyroidism. He actually had a woman on there that got into a bad accident and gained a lot of weight and he was very supportive and empathetic toward her. I think many people who are overweight want to have a reason and not be accountable for it. I've even done it before.... like saying, oh I'm overweight b/c of my thyroid. I think some of it is b/c of that, but I also need to take some responsibility for it too. We all make choices to eat this or not to eat that, or to not go and exercise today for whatever reason with the mindset of " I'll do it tomorrow " . Also, Dr Phil had a team of people help him write his recent book. One was a medical doc and he also had a nutritionist and someone else too. He definitely did his homework on this one. Best, I like Dr. Phil, but isn't he a therapist?? What does HE know about hypothyroidism anyway?!
