I think you are getting very bad medical care, which you already seem to

know. It is better to treat the person rather than the test, and

endometriosis is a hypo symptom. Look for topdocs at

http://www.geocities.com/thyroide (tells you where to look for docs and

other info). You also might really need progesterone (not progestin which

is synthetic).

hello there, sorry to hear about what you've been going through. Here's

what I found on www.thyroid.about.com about docs in Houston. There are

others in other areas of Texas as well. Hope this helps....

Houston

Dr. Joy Blumenreich, G.P. - Well Women Exams, Whole Health Associates, 1406

Vermont, Houston, TX 77006, 713-522-6336. http://www.wholehealthassoc.com.

“A very laid-back person. She listens to my concerns and seems to care about

me as a person, not just another lab value. Willing to work with me on

alternative treatments, like Armour. Reads and discusses all the articles I

send her from this website, especially the ones discussing blood work ref.

ranges. She works with a group of nutitionists that can recommend natural

supplements to complement the prescription thyroid drugs. Her office is in

an old house in the Montrose area, so don't expect a high tech atmosphere!“

Houston

Dr Jerome Borochoff 8830 Long Point Rd no. 504, Houston TX 77055, phone 713

461 7517 A reader writes: " I moved from Switzerland to Houston in Janury

2000. I had problems for the last 25 years with depression low energy and

bad hair loss., Thanks to your site which was recommended to me by a thyroid

patient I discovered that most of my symptoms were thyroid related -- had

been treated for a goiter. , It took me a long time to come accross Dr

Borochoff whose name I got through the foundation. He spent two hours

with me and I left with a prescription for Armour. I saw a difference very

quickly and my depression faded away my long lasting hair loss improved and

my hair is growing back. On top of it he is very reasonable in his prices

which wasn't the case of other doctors I contacted in Houston.

Houston

Dr. Craig Jeffries, Internal Medicine. (713) 407-3044. A reader shares, “Dr.

Jeffries’ manners are excellent, he has a proactive approach towards his

patients and can be reached after hours. While Dr. Jeffries is a young

physician, his approach and knowledge of the endocrine system is amazing. He

seems to have this uncanny knack of prescribing the right drugs for the

ailment.”

Houston

Tri Lee Endocrinology Kelsey Seybold Clinic -Holcombe Houston, Texas

713-442-0000

http://www.kelsey-seybold.com/Your_Physician/doctor_info.phtml?doc_id=1534.

A reader writes: " Dr Lee was my first Endo who seemed to be genuinely

concerned in helping me feel better. I'd been to Dr Orzeck later when our

insurance required me to change from Dr Lee within 2 months of being put on

meds. While seeing Dr O, I was taken off my meds, Atenolol and Tapazole at

least 3 or 4 times the first year. Within two weeks I'd be right back to

square one. Dr Lee is my new Dr as our insurance changed, and I'm very glad

about it. He's an excellent Dr and has his patience uppermost on his agenda.

He also assured me we would not be doing the cold turkey withdrawal on my

meds anymore. " (Added 4/03)

Houston

Dr. J. Levy, D.O., F.A.C.P. 1140 Westmont, Suite 300 Houston -- TX

77015 451-4100. A reader writes: " He is open to both traditional and

non-traditional therapies and treatments. I requested to be put on Thyrolar

and he was very open to it. He strongly supports T3 usage in his thyroid

treatments. I love him. " (NOTE: Other patients write in that Dr. Levy " is

good as long as your lab values line up with your condition. If you still

have symptoms when your numbers say you are well, you may need to find

another doc. " You may want to call ahead for a preliminary consultation with

this doctor before making an appointment.)

Houston

Dr. Orzeck Endocrinology N. Stadium Dr. Houston TX 713-797-9977

eorzeck@.... A reader writes: " Knowledgeable, personable and attentive. "

(Added 6/03)

Houston

Dr. Luiz , Reproductive Endocrinologist, 7400 Fannin, Suite 850

Houston, TX (713)791-1874. This reader tells us that Dr. is “very

knowledgeable. Answers all my questions. Gets me in and out on time. Lets me

be a participant in my plan of action. Just a great doctor.”

Houston

Vivian , MD PA endocrinology 2201 West Holcombe Blvd Suite 305

Houston, TX 77030 713-796-1188. A reader writes: " Dr. treats my

symptoms, not just my lab tests! She does an exam, instead of just looking

at the test results. She does use the test results, but she is not their

slave. My TSH has never been abnormal, so most endos see no reason to treat

my horrible symptoms. Dr. looks at free T3 and free T4, as well. I

can't say what a relief it is to finally see a really good endocrinologist. "

(Added 2/03)

Houston

Endocrinologist, Internal Medicine 1200 Binz, Suite 930

Houston, TX 77004 713-523-9508. A reader writes: " Dr. listens and

asks lots of questions. He spends time with you and isn't just concerned

with the numbers. Even listened to my concerns regarding the

radio-oncologist at the hospital and took action. Dr. even returns

phone calls as late as 7pm at night. " (Added 4/03)

I am sorry for what you are going through, and hope you find a good

doctor. Hypothyroidism often comes with menopause, and your

histerectomy induced an early menopause on you, so it makes sense

that you'd go hypo after it.

I hate hearing about people being told their 'depressed' as a catch-

all diagnosis! It's disgusting! Who DOESN'T get depressed under those

circumstances! Sounds like your doc just wants to treat the effect

and not the cause. I'm sorry you're going through this. Can you

change docs or get a second opinion??
