Guest guest
Yes, definitely see a Lyme specialist. If you don't get a response to your query, please re-post with your request and location in the subject line. Not everyone will read every post, but most will skim the headers. It is possible for the bacteria to travel to your central nervous system within 12 hours of the bite. This means that you need to be on a full dose of doxy, meaning 400 mg (or even 600 mg if you are large), rather than the 200 mg you are taking. This is necessary in order to penetrate the CNS. A Lyme specialist (LLMD) will treat even early cases at these high doses for at least 4 to 6 weeks. Best of luck, tdl_53 <timlein@...> wrote: Two weeks after finding 3 tics (non-attached ones) on me I came down with a high fever and the next day a rash. After 3 days I went to my GP and he suspected LD. Put me on Doxycycline (100mg twice a day) for 21 days. BTW, the fever lasted 4 days and the rash 6 days. The rash was on my upper thigh, light red, about 5-6 inches, not a " bulls-eye " and I didn't find a tic there (of course I could have missed one). I'm 1/2 way through the Doxy treatment and feel fine. If I do have LD, will this cure it for sure? How do I know if it is or isn't cured? I'm thinking about seeing a LD specialist. Does anyone know one in the N. VA area? (DC or MD as well) Thanks, Tim --------------------------------- Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs.Try it free. Guest guest
IT SEEMS THAT YOUR FP IS AHEAD OF THE GAME, WOULD AGREE STAY ON THE ANTIBIOTIC FOR 30 DAYS FOR BETTER COVERAGE. A SECOND OP ION NEVER HURTS. andrew mercer <mercerman07701@...> wrote: Your going to be fine. Guest guest
The " bulls-eye " rash doesn't necessarily look like a bulls-eye. And many people with Lyme never get a rash (I'm one of those). The high fever is a classic symptom of Lyme. Your GP is to be commended for getting you on antibiotics right away. The only quibble I have with your GP is the dose of doxy. I think it's too low. Many doctors prescribe 400 or 600 mg a day. There's lots of controversy over what the dose should be, so plenty of doctors would disagree with me. Doxy is a good abx for Lyme because it's a broad-spectrum abx, so if you have any co-infections it's likely to kill them. Unfortunately, the primary way to tell if you've recovered from Lyme is to not get sick again. You can have more testing, but Lyme is known for hiding out from the immune system, so testing isn't always accurate. Guest guest
Thanks. I already found that article few days ago and found it to be very informative. I just forwarded it yesterday to my regular doctor and asked her at the same time if she would extend my AB treatment (based on the article's recommendations). I figure if I just asked her to extend the treatment, she probably would say no. Right now I'm in the middle of a 3 week Doxy course. --- Connie Siese <Cslyme@...> wrote: > go to www.ilads.org and read dr. burrascano's > guidelines > > connie,e mi > [ ] Is this a proper treatment? > > > > Two weeks after finding 3 tics (non-attached ones) > on me I came down > > with a high fever and the next day a rash.
