He and I were both surprised because so many Lymies have had success with Ketek. I went back through my symptoms calendar and found that I felt best when I was on Biaxin and hydroxchloroquine (Plaquenil). He went back through his notes even farther and found the same then, so he gave me new prescriptions for them. He also asked me to stay off abx for at least another 2 weeks and maybe as long as a month to see how I feel. If I start to feel better, he said, it could be that I'd been suffering " antibiotic toxicity. " Has anyone ever heard of that? It certainly would explain why Ketek didn't work for me and why I need a break. As I understand it, Biaxin is like an earlier version of Ketek -- so maybe whatever works for me in Biaxin isn't in Ketek. On another note, I'm going to get a CD57 test. My doctor insisted on a LabCorp test. Fortunately, they have a " patient service center " in my town; their website says they have over 1000 service centers in the US. Guest guest
Hi Jessie, This is my first post to this group but I'm active in several other Lyme groups, so hi everyone. I developed a toxicity to Doxycycline after being on it several months. I did great for months, then suddenly developed headaches, fatigue and GI problems - but it was over the Christmas holidays and I couldn't get a hold of my LLMD or anyone. Anyway, he said many people kind of hit the wall with Doxy after several months, so I presume it can happen with other antibiotics. I was also seeing a Lyme naturopath at the time who said I had become very toxic from it. So I took a two week break from everything before I started on the next antibiotic and I was OK. So I guess it's more common than I realized. He also said if I ever went back on Doxy, I'd probably develop a toxicity/resistance quickly given it happened once before, so that's why we're avoiding it. Guest guest
Your message has been edited. Please read the file entitled " Your Message Has Been Edited " at /files/ . Lyme Aid Owner ===== what were the symptoms of toxicity?were there other symptoms?what was the dose?[i believe that] doxy is a very safe antibiotic and very useful in lyme disease...[though I am NOT a doctor] it does cross the bbb in large doses...are you sure that the antibiotic was not fighting in a certain area?also what do they mean by toxic?that is a confusing word....if you dont like doxy you can also try mino but you may find it to strong...it is a big herx hitter as well as ketek,flagyl,mino,ceftin...those are the antibiotics that really hit hard....I dont understand what you meant by toxicity based on your symptoms....I have been on doxy and it worked... you will NOT feel well when taking it and you WILL have a headache and gi problems...so I would try to find an llmd that understands lyme disease that can address this concern of TOXICITY.Lyme disease is not the disease that is treated by a naturepath...it is a very serious and deadly disease that deserves our respect...please try to get an informed doc and you may have to pay for the best doc but a least you will be on the path to wellness...after you have gotten rid of all your symptoms then a naturopath might take the lead and build the body...find an llmd... thanx eric wrywriter54 <Jillcopy@...> wrote: Hi Jessie, This is my first post to this group but I'm active in several other Lyme groups, so hi everyone. Guest guest
Thanks, Jill! This is really helpful. I always reach a point where I feel I need a break from abx -- I can't put my finger on why I need a break, I just know I do. And I usually feel very good for the first week, which reinforces my decision. Guest guest
I've never used LabCorp before; and I plan to stick with the lab I've been using for other tests. I'm only having the CD57 test done and I've been told no one else does it, so I guess I'll have to take their word on the results! Thanks, Jessie Bud, > > Have you had experience with LabCorp? Guest guest
Gee Jessie I would think that the test you talk about would be done else so Ck.
