Heart/chest pains

I have to let you know that I had this as well. Well, at least chest

pains, and have them regularly now. My doctor in the urgent care said they

were " casto chondritis " and caused by some virus that settled into the ribs

that I MUST have had months ago, but curiously it occurred after the lyme

bite and now I suffer from this consistently. I don't even bother worrying

about it. I'm not sure this is wise or not, but considering how illiterate

the doctors are out here, I'm not even sure what symptoms I should report

anymore. I feel like my heart is blocked at times, as well.

I'm thoroughly frustrated with the MD's out here... :(

I actually had a brilliant idea while showering! haha Anyway, after

having my heart block cleared up a few years ago and only having occasional

pains, they have returned almost full force since about 1 week after surg.

Here is my thought, I was given 8 doses of steroids, even after telling

everybody that I could not have any, steroids have been known to cause

Cardio Myopathy in Lymies. Just wonder if this is not the pains I have been

having? I really dunno, going to call my LLMD in the A.M. Pepi

Hi Pepi,

This is pretty scary, I hope your doctor is Lyme literate and can answer

you about this. I am not familiar with heart block, I read somewhere that

only a small percentage of people with LD get this condition, not sure if

that's right or not as I have learned to trust nothing I read on the

internet or newsgroups or even the newspapers or TV to be carved in stone

correct. Please let us know how you make out.

Hi Joy,

Shudder, ...I just read your experience with the military....UGH, OUCH!!

Do you drive a Hummer vehicle?

The term you mean is " costochondritis, "

costo meaning rib,

and chondritis meaning inflammation of the cartilage.

Thus: inflammation of the caritlage of the rib(s).

......the medical assistant part of me coming out, lol.

a Aida, NJ

Hi Joy,

Many of us with LD have suffered from the chostochondritis??? spelling

way off, never can remember how to spell this one. It is an inflamation

around the tissues in the rib cage. It usually is a come and go situation,

like many of our other symptoms. It can last for several months then

disappear one day, it is very painful, anti-inflammatory meds are the only

help for it as far as I know, and maybe ice or heat.

I know what you mean about being afraid to report to a disbelieving doctor

some of the oddball symptoms we get, that is why a list like this is so

great, you can share symptoms and know you are not alone in your suffering.

Hope this helps,

Marta

Hi,

I have this, too. My PCP always took it to mean that I had a

viral infection and not Lyme, as costochondritis accompanies viral

infections. But then the LLMD said this rib/chest pain is common among

Lyme patients. He told me not to worry if the chest pains get worse when

I take the abx - that it does NOT mean I'm having a heart attack. I'm so

reassured that others know what I mean. This chest pain has been among

the most consistent symptoms. Have had it for 6 years - gets worse during

some herxes - in general it has improved with the abx treatment (which

I've only been on since being diagnosed w. Lyme 5 months ago).

Best wishes to all, Marie

Yeah, I had a Dr tell me the same thing, not to worry, 2 years later , heart

attack at 28!!!! and heartblock, unless you have had a tilt table, echo's

etc to rule out definatlively that this is not heart related, BEWARE!!!!

When I herx bad it is my heart, missed beats, major arrythmias big enough

to wake me. Just be carefull, btw, we all must be females since women

*dont have heart problems* seems like Drs always lean to something else.

ok, I'll accept your spelling, as I was basing it on something a MD wrote. ;)
