Guest guest
I have heard so much about migrains ...is this something to do with RA. I started having them every month for about 4 or 5 years now. It always happens around my period so I just assumed it had something to do with my periods. But now I'm not so sure. I started with methotrexate and remicade around the time the headaches started. I have tried zomig which as horrible side affects that make my whole body hurt even my hair. and the my doc gave me maxalt to try and the first two times I took it, it worked with no side effects but hasnt worked at all since then. I go back to the doc on tues the 10th and going to ask for something else again. Maybe I'll have to mention the imitrex. I JUST LOVE THIS GROUP !!!! I am so thankful for all of you and your advice. in Michigan LH <saludo@...> wrote: So did I! I had my first one at 4 years old, and remember it clearly. Guest guest
Migraine syndrome is not related to RA, but certain medications can trigger migraines in susceptible people. Taking Imitrex is a quality-of-life issue; it has been linked to some heart problems, should not be taken with birth control pills, etc. It's a serious drug which can have serious side effects, and needs to be thoroughly discussed with your physician. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 3:17 PM Subject: Re: Migraines and Dealing With RA I have heard so much about migrains ...is this something to do with RA. Guest guest
I've been getting migraines for years, well before my RA set in. Mine are mostly related to my period. Sometimes I can get up to 4 during that time. I tried the perscription meds, this was about 3 years ago. I had some inhaled drug that freaked me out and I wouldn't even take it, I just didn't like the method of delivery! I took the pain pill (don't remember what it was called, but it wasn't Percoset or Vicodin) and I was practically comatose! I actually found that Excedrin for Migraines worked really well for me! It will completely go away if I catch the headache early and lessen if I take it later. My headaches usually come on in my sleep so its sometimes hard to catch. > > So did I! Guest guest
Imitrex is only for migraine, not stress. It's not a pain medication, and does not relieve pain. It's sumatriptan succinate, and acts on receptors in the brain. It wouldn't do anything for tension as far as the pain. When I take it for a different type headache, it doesn't do anything for me at all(so I only take it for migraines). ----- Original Message ----- From: Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Wednesday, January 04, 2006 8:54 PM Subject: Re: Migraines and Dealing With RA Wow thanks and thats alot to think about. I didnt realize about the side effects for imitrex. My sister in law takes it and I dont think she gets migraines I think she just has stress headaches ( but she is also a former herion user). My headaches are pretty severe. I cant stand light or noise and I get so sick to my stomach some times its just unbearable. I take davrocet and vicodin for pain with RA and thought it would help with the migraines but it doesnt even touch the pain. I will definatly talk about different options with my doctor. Again I LOVE this group I am so glad I joined . Thanks

Guest guest
Yes, , now that you mention it, I believe it was Imatrex in the inhaled form. I am sticking to Excedrin! > > > > group " Rheumatoid Arthritis " on the web. > >
