Guest guest
n has been having problems for about a month now. She fatigues easy and has the headaches again. Everytime she has flared she started with headaches. Even when we had to go back on steroids, the headaches persisted still another month or two. We brought her to a ped. neurologist and he didn't want to give her anymore medicine, for he called them daily chronic headaches,(duh, what a stupid name) He said if you take more medicine for the headaches, usually the headache comes back worse when the medicine wears off. She does take tylenol on top of her naprosyn when they get bad. The neurologist recommended acupuncture, and we started to pursue that when the headaches just stopped. This was all last year. This last month we have been muddling through by trying to get her more rest. She sees the ped. rheumy on Thursday, but I don't know if he will think she is bad enough to start steroids again. She is stiff nearly all day now, but she is making it to school. Some days she has to come home and rest before homework, and sometimes she is somewhat okay. She flares at the absolute same time every year. Starts in early January and works out of it in the Spring. Guest guest
Hi Aimee, The only time that Robbie had headaches was when the cyclosporine was added along with the high dose of steriods. This is a side affect of both medications, as is the high blood pressure that Robbie was diagnosed with when the headaches began. He was started on lisinopril when the headaches started for his blood pressure, and the headaches went away. The lisinopril was later lowered. as he was tapered from the steriods, then during a recent flare for which Rob was hospitalized, his headaches returned, the high bp seemed to be the problem, the lisinopril dose was raised back to the original amount, and no more headaches. Robbie has experienced a lot of fatigue - but that has also been associated with a flare, and at times the medication when he was on Naprosyn or the Indocin. The Indocin is now prn - and he still tires easily at times, though with his symptoms I don't think we are quite out of the flare - though getting close! I hope this helps and I hope Karl feels better soon! Robbie has never taken the methotrexate, so I don't know what you can associate with that based on any experience, but I am sure you will hear from someone who can address that specifically. Take care! Head ache's! yes here too! and more frequently within the past 12 yrs. since the major neck involvement! Which by the way, is due to my own stubborn determination, to do things I probably shouldn't! And NO! comments!!! from certain Indivdguals either!!!!! and they know who they are!!!!! Anyways, that's what makes me, me! Guest guest
I have occasional headaches, but they are due to the pain and stiffness in my neck. When my stress levels were really high I had headaches on a regular basis, but not so much anymore. Thank God. One more thing to be thankful for. Guest guest
Hi Have you ever checked your different meds to see if some of your symptoms/headaches, fatigue etc are the result of the drug side effects. A good place to look and bookmark is www.medlineplus.gov. It is a good site as most of the material there comes from the Mayo Clinic or American Medical Journal. You can look up a specific drug and check out the side effects to see if you can handle before taking. Sometimes, and I know only to well from experience, can be much worse than the pain itself. Here is something I got from medlineplus also: 'Psoriatic arthritis can develop slowly with mild symptoms, or it can develop quickly and be severe. Early recognition, diagnosis and treatment of psoriatic arthritis can help prevent or limit extensive joint damage that occurs in later stages of the disease. Generally, one or more of the following symptoms appears: a.. Generalized fatigue b.. Tenderness, pain and swelling over tendons c.. Swollen fingers and toes d.. Stiffness, pain, throbbing, swelling and tenderness in one or more joints e.. A reduced range of motion f.. Morning stiffness and tiredness g.. Nail changes-for example, the nail separates from the nail bed and/or becomes pitted and mimics fungus infections h.. Redness and pain of the eye, such as conjunctivitis Take care Hope juliehope@... www.4betrhealth.com - I also have a newsletter here that goes out monthly. [ ] fatigue and headaches Hi all, Since I am new to this disease, I still have a lot of questions. I am currently not on any DMARDS. I stopped Sulfasalazine 2 weeks ago. I will be starting Arava this week, once my doctor gets me my loading dose. Anyway, is it common to experience occasional fatiue with this disease? I usually have fatigue between 2-5p.m. on some days. I usually try to work through it and then I get a second wind. Furthermore, is it common to get headaches with this disease? I am a person who very rarely got a headache until recently. I am not getting headaches everyday, but I am getting them a lot more frequently than I think I should. Tylenol usually helps. All of this is tolerable so far, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Also, if you have tried Arava, if you can tell me about it that would be great. Did any of you have any strange side effects with Arava? Thank you all for listening. [Editor's Note: Fatigue is a major symptom of the disease in no small measure because your body's immune system if fighting your own body all the time. Living with chronic pain is also fatigue-inducing and this often is coupled with fatigue brought on by our medications. Fatigue is one of THE most frequently cited PA symptoms. I haven't heard of headaches as being part of PA. Does anyone else know? Kathy F.] --------------------------------- Cheap Talk? Check out Messenger's low PC-to-Phone call rates. Guest guest
I haven't heard of headaches as being part of PA. Does anyone else know? I haven't heard of headaches specifically linked to PA, but like any other autoimmune disease, PA sufferers can develop headaches which are similar to one-sided migraines.....related to a condition called temporal arteritis, which can also affect the optic nerve and lead to loss of vision. I suffer from occasional migraines. I don't get them often, but when I do, they tend to cluster. I can go months without having one, and then have up to 5 in one week. The last time I had such headaches, the rheumatologist was unsure whether they were due to temporal arteritis, or whether they were just plain migraines. He put me on a Medrol dose pack (treatment of temporal arteritis is steroids, basically) and referred me to neurology, who ruled out sinusitis and ultimately decided they were severe migraines brought on by a nasty case of the flu.
