This is one of the meds that take a few weeks to get maximum effectiveness. If your stomach is reacting badly MAKE SURE YOU EAT SOMETHING when you take the meds. (ask me how I know!!) The other side effects - sleep disturbance, dry mouth, etc will probably taper off... Give it a fair try, but if the bad side effects are getting in the way, don't hesitate to contact the dr. Anti-depressants often need tweaked to find the right spot for you... TIMERS: I used a digital timer while doing housework this weekend. I may have looked and acted silly, but the dog didn't mind, and I actually found the bottom of my closet!! Hope everyone is doing well... I have insomnia something terrible, but could be any of the drugs, probably Prednisone, causing this. I have a good sleeping pill, Temazapam (sp?) that works well and lets me get a good sleep. I am fatigued all day long and weak, but I am just chalking that up to all this turmoil in my body. note* I don't take effexor everyday. Should I? I thought that I would just take it when I felt I needed it. If I am just at home lying around, I felt that there is no use in taking it if I didn't need to. Guest guest Posted January 3, 2007 Report Share Posted January 3, 2007 I am on effexor also . I also suffer from insommnia . do not take the effexor in the evening or it will keep you up . The doctor told me to take 2 in am but I could not do that because it affected my speaking and my speech got all slurred . your realyl not supposed to take it 'when you feel like it ' because it can cause a withdrawral type syndrome . Your supposed to take it at a regular dose and time everyday. It does help me with anxiety and if I am having an especially painful day i take 2 but I don't like to do that . It probably affects you differently . I have to be careful because have a heart problem . you can experience high blood pressue and high cholesterol or numbness in etremities on this drug . But I would call the doctor if it happens . it is usually prescribed for peolple with multiple sclerosis . But ironically enough it can cause symptoms that mimic ms. cathy from ma. Mobic did the same thing to me, too. Thanks for the insight on the adjustment period! DH is on Effexor for GAD and he had no side effects with it (unlike Wellbutrin and Lexapro), so he thinks it's in my head. He doesn't seem to understand that I have a different body and take different meds than him. Thankfully this month I can slow down a bit and allow it time to " kick in " to work on the pain.
