Guest guest
Kathy, thanks for the info about injectable MTX. I may need it. The nausea is worse today than yesterday - is that typical? Does it also cause awful fatigue and itching? With so many drugs, it's hard to tell which causes what. LOL sherry z [Editor's Note: Sherry, I don't know if MTX could cause nausea or itching a few days after the shot, but I know from personal experience that it can cause fatigue for several days. You're right - it is hard to know which drug (if it even is a drug) that is causing the symptoms. Generally, you have to stop one drug and see if the symptoms cease and if they do, then that drug was probably the culprit. MTX is a marvelous drug for many people and it also has been shown to enhance the performance of other drugs such as Remicade, Enbrel and Humira. However, it can have side unpleasant side effects in some people. Talk to your doctor and see what he/she recommends. However, if the nausea subsides but returns again after you next take MTX, you can be reasonably sure that methotrexate is the culprit. As I mentioned, the injectable version for SOME people does not cause the symptoms that the oral version causes. It is also possible that your body will adjust to it and that the symptoms will go away. Is the itching psoriasis itching or is it more general? If it is the latter, you can probably take an anti-histamine and the itching will go away. Kathy F.]
Guest guest
Oh Sherry...thanks for the update and I'm hoping that this is your wonder drug too. I would love to read that your feet are cleared up. I want everyone to be running around like I am. I was not sure that I ever would be myself again. I do know that there may be times when it gets rough again but it is so sweet when it is not that I thoroughly enjoy each step I take. I savor each little one....or big one! I am slowing down a bit because I had to get off the Enbrel due to an infection. I can't take another injection until the infections are clear. But hopefully it won't be too much longer... a week or so. It reminds me of how much the Enbrel is helping me. So I really hope that the Mxt is the one for you. And I'm glad the thankful gig is working for you as it is for Kathy and myself. You CAN be thankful for MORE than 5 if you want! Five just gets you started. Sometimes, I'm grateful for little things like a new toothbrush and sometimes it's big things like my a close friend but they're all reasons to celebrate life. If you continue to have mild nausea from the MTX, you might ask your rheumy about switching to injectable MTX instead of oral. Some people experience fewer side effects when taken intramuscularly instead of orally. Kathy F.] >
Guest guest
Deborah - thanks so much for the tips about anti-nausea and anti-itch meds!!! I will try them both. The nausea got worse the second day (yesterday) but seems a little better today. Hey, maybe I will lose some weight? LOL sherry z > > good morning sherry > > i am new to the group but i think i have information that will help you. when i first started taking mtx years ago, i had the same problems nausea, i found an otc drug emitrol. its a liquid comes in two flavors cherry and lemon lime. if you take one dosage the night before you take your mtx pills and one after, it will kill the nausea. you wont wake up feeling like you are pregnant. lol > > also the itching is a side effect of the mtx for alot of people. i use loratadine 10mg

Guest guest
Hi Deborah. I have a little Cherokee in me. I just found out 3 years ago and I'd love to know more about my heritage. Welcome to the group and thanks so much for jumping right in and helping out. That's what we are all about. I'm sorry to read that you have so many health issues yourself. If I lived near you, I'd do a medication run for ya anytime I could. I bet people would be happy to do that for you down there but maybe that Indian blood makes us stubborn and self-sufficient. This year, I have learned to let people help me and it has not hurt as much as I thought it would. It makes me feel so good to help others and it dawned on me that I was prohibiting others by not allowing them to help me when I needed it. Ok...it's still hard to do sometimes but I'm working on it. lol. - Betz > Kathy, thanks for the info about injectable MTX. I may need it. The > nausea is worse today than yesterday - is that typical? A great medicine my doctor prescribed to counteract my nausea was " Omerprazole " (20mg). I had originally taken it for Indomethacin nausea, but when the injectable MTX shortage hit about a year or so ago, I switched to the pill form of MTX and low-and-behold, absolutely NO nausea. Good luck! Jim PS - I'm sure you've probably already been told this, but I always take my MTX dose before bedtime.
Guest guest
Jim, thanks for the info. I spoke with the rheumy's nurse this a.m. and hope to hear from her today about what I might take for the nausea for this Wed.'s dose. Yes, I took it at bedtime. She had said I could either take all 4 pills at once, or I could take 2 in the a.m. and 2 in the evening. I took all 4 at once. Would it be less nauseous to split it up? sherry z > > > Sherry, I too take MTX (17.5 by mouth weekly), Tramadol (50mg twice a > day) and " extended release " Indomethacin (75mg.) as my daily NSAID. > > A great medicine my doctor prescribed to counteract my nausea > was " Omerprazole " (20mg).
