Guest guest
also, i don't know if you know this but the tablets (especially the 25mg ones) are very very small. they could be swallowed by many kids, or dabbed in honey, or chocolate, or marshmallow, or whatever sweet thing they might like. they are smaller than a lentil... lyla > > we have it compounded from the tablet (the one with lactose, unfortunately). You could do that if you want to avoid the aluminum. > > > > >
Guest guest
Hi Charis, Really frustrating. I had to be on a different medication this summer which contained both aluminum and lactose. I found out where to have it compounded but we never got me to a stable dose long enough to go to compounded. I increased my apple pectin (malic acid) but won't have another hair test until next summer to see if my aluminum went up. S S Lamictal, aluminum and malic acid Posted by: " charis011 " hmhull1@... charis011 Tue Nov 24, 2009 11:03 am (PST) My daughter has just started a medication (dispersible Lamictal) that has aluminum in it. Wondering what to do. Would magnesium malate help to excrete the aluminum or cause her to absorb more of it as it's injested? There is really no alternative to this medication for at least a couple of months, while we titrate up her dose. (Later we can switch to a version that has Lactose in it, but that's another problem...) A couple of years ago she dumped huge, huge amounts of aluminum on the Yasko protocol -- up to 70x the DDI upper ref range. So I know she has problems with aluminum. Any help much appreciated, Charis ------------------------------------------------------------ Earn your Culinary Degree at a college near you. Get info and apply! Guest guest
Try compounding it with an in-state pharmacy. We usually use Hopewell but since starting Lamictal, I found an in-state pharmacy that would compound Lamictal from the tablets. Our insurance pays for it and the medical assistance picks up the copay. ________________________________ From: charis011 <hmhull1@...> Sent: Wed, November 25, 2009 8:42:56 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Lamictal, aluminum and malic acid  Thanks, everybody. Yes, by dispersible, I mean dissolvable, Stupidly, I didn't check the ingredients before filling the prescription. When we get up to 25mg, we can use the tablets with lactose. For now, the compounding would have been the way to go (I usually try to avoid compounding as we have a super-high co-pay) -- the problem now is that since I've already filled the RX, insurance won't cover it al all. So annoyed with myself. Charis > > Hi Charis, > Really frustrating. I had to be on a different medication this summer which contained both aluminum and lactose. Guest guest
Aluminum is known to induce seizures in monkeys. I would look for alternatives. If she needs seizure medicine could you ask the doctor if she could try Keppra (levetiracetam) instead? I saw Lamictal was for bipolar disorder too, but you could give small amounts of lithium orotate to help with bipolar symptoms. Just some ideas. This source says it can cause rashes, but I would also be concerned with all the colors and flavors in it. http://doihavealawsuit.com/lawyer-attorney/70-side-effects-lawsuit/215-lamictal-\ lawsuit.html > > My daughter has just started a medication (dispersible Lamictal) that has aluminum in it. Guest guest
Aww, I'm sorry. I am going to say a prayer for blessing on your daughter and the medicine. > > > > > > My daughter has just started a medication (dispersible Lamictal) that has aluminum in it. Wondering what to do.
