Fashia I had that same concern as well. I've had several people tell me that yes they lost some hair but it seems it always came back. Good luck to you and I'll be saying a prayer for your safe and complete recovery. I have my surgery the weekend before you so we will be starting around the same time. How are you feeling.......... this is the first time I've seen your name.... where are you from?

Fashia, Many people lose their hair in the beginning when they are losing weight fast. The doctor recommends zinc for the hair loss, it grows back after while so do not worry too much about it. There were some very funny posts about this a few months ago. I would like to ask if their hair has already regrown... it was and I believe. Yep, I am one that had/have the problem. It started about the 3rd month post op and no matter what I have tried, it is still coming out. But I think it has slowed up some. I only wash my hair twice a week because I have very dry curly hair, and that is when it comes out the most. Luckily I started out with a lot of hair and I still have a lot of hair but one of my comments was that my cloth car seat looks like sasquatch threw up a hair ball on it. :)

Hey Fashia,

I lost a LITTLE hair. I think if you take your vitamins and minerals and eat a good balanced diet, you will be fine. I tend to always lose a little after anesthesia. But, it always grows back. Talk to Dr Aceves and he will let you know what things you need in your diet.

I am so excited for you!!! I just got back from Mexicali and told Dr Aceves to take great care of you. He smiled as if to say, I always do :0)

Normal hair loss is 50-100 hairs PER DAY...now, that doesn't mean you arent' losing more than normal, but as hair is shed, a new one is exiting the follicle...so it is constantly being replaced.

I recommended Nutri-Ox shampoo and hair care products on the list before, and it DOES help a lot. You can purchase it at any Sally Beauty Supply. Also, you can get vitamins that are specifically formulated for hair, nails & skin...BIOTIN & Protien are the key.

I am a barber/hairstylist, and have been for 21 yrs. My best friend works in hair replacement...and believe me, we have seen hair loss from all kinds of things...and believe it or not, some folks experience it more as an after effect of the anesthesia than anything lacking in their diet. I also am a cancer survivor...I was bald when I went to beauty college...take care of the inside of you, and the hair WILL come back!BIG HUGS, AND GOD'S BLESSINGSDawnita MayLowpass, Oregon10/05/05 dob "Iraida" 209/190/135 5ft 3inches"before" photos at: http://dawnita1961.myphotoalbum.com/

  • 3 years later...

I have Crohn's (for 15 years) and took LDN for 3 months with great

results - my Crohn's symptoms cleared up completely. I started to

experience pretty significant hair loss so I stopped the LDN in

November. Now the hair loss has tapered off, but the Crohn's symptoms

are back after I got an intestinal virus (always the way it starts.)

So I'm going back on LDN but I'm nervous about the hair loss thing.

Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, does it subside after

you've been on LDN for some particular period of time?

Thanks.

Hi,

prior LDN I had significant hair loss. I had been using prednisone for 3 months, and before that I had severe anemia, both are often leading to hair loss as a result. Also other Crohns medicine and malnutrition due to the disease itself will often result in hair loss. When I startedusing LDN my hair gradually got better, but it took a year to show good results. I don't know anyone that have suffered hair loss due to using LDN.

I have been using LDN for 1 year and 4 months, and I have to say that LDN is the best medicine ever for me. Other Crohns medicines are often giving serious side effects, so when finding LDN the choise was easy.

Having Crohns is the same as having hair loss now and then. Our intestines can't take up enough iron, minerals and vitamins. Therefor we need to start using a good nutrition, taking enough vitamins, have regularly bloodworks done, and cook our own food so that we can keep a close watch on the vitamins and minerals intake. We also need to take cod liver oil to get enough vitamin D, E and A. Combining this with LDN will give you a beautiful hair again!

Good luck :-)Ingrid

My uneducated guess is that whilst it seems related to the LDN given

what you've described it is unlikely to be directly related. Most

people have the opposite happen i.e. they find their hair (and

fingernails) grows more quickly and thickly on LDN. See

Try taking MSM, most people state their hair and nails grow in much faster with this supplement.

I have never heard (in 4 years of being on this site) about hair loss.

I had severe hair loss but it was associated with tapering of prednisone. Maybe if you had recently tapered then it could be a side effect of that.
