Another question...

Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism when

they were young. I'm only 23, but was diagnosed last year with the

disorder but have had the symptoms unknowingly since I was 15. Please

e-mail me back, it would be nice to have some one to relate in my age

group and discuss Hypothyroidism and how it has effected thier lives.

Hello, I was diagnosed when I was 26, but I have had all of these symptoms

since age 16 or 17. I'll be 27 next month. I actually went to my dr. when

I was 19ish and asked for a thyroid test and he told me that I didn't need

it. I've always thought that I've had this b/c in high school I was pretty

thin and then I gained uncontrolable (sp?) amounts of weight in my opinion.

The 2001 year was the worst for me and I went to my new dr. and was going to

get tested no matter what, esp. since my sister was diagnosed around that

time. Two thirds of 2001 is a blur to me. I was so sick and now I feel

better (started meds in Oct. 2001), but am actually in therapy b/c I

realized that I lost a piece of my self in all of this. I don't look OR

feel like I'm the same person. It really bothers me but I'm working on

trying to be more positive. I know I can do it b/c I got myself out of a

slump after my father died. Tell us your story :)

,

I'm sorry your dad died. YOu are so young to lose him. Losses (death)

can alter your thyroid. My TSH went up after a huge loss I had in 94.

Stress, (job loss, etc.), depression, etc. can all affect the thyroid.

I'm glad you're on the right track now!! ;))

Love and take care,

Hi,

I just turned 29 and was diagnosed in January with

hypo. I have had the symptoms probably since I was

your age but thought it was just depression. I was

first put on Levoxyl and than went to a specialist who

told me I didn't need T4 but needed T3 (after running

the correct tests). I'm now taking Armour (1 Grain)

and 25mg of Cytomel. I feel a little better but not

100%. I feel so bloated and I just can't seem to cut

out sugar which I love. Well, feel free to email me

anytime. Take care.

, I really identify with your statements in your last paragraph

that you feel like you lost a part of yourself.

What lead you to be tested for hypothyroid? And what were your worst

symptoms, other than being terribly ill, and sounds like a weight

gain was involved too.

Hi Lee,

I got tested b/c I always suspected that I had it and my first dr. wouldn't

test me. By the time I got another dr. when I moved, I wasn't feeling that

sick until 2001 and that's when I got tested.

my symptoms last year were intense brain fog, mood swings, achy joints,

weight gain, very puffy face, mild depression, fatigue.... but at times I

had so much energy (too much) that I couldn't stop doing something. I'd

come home and scrub my house until I passed out in bed. I'd try sitting and

I'd feel like I was going to jump out of my skin or a window for that

matter. It was kind of like anxiety but not really. It's just hard right

now b/c I don't look or feel like the same person and I liked who I used to

be alot, not to say that I don't now. I do love myself. It's just another

journey. Sometimes things have to completely fall apart in order to build

them back just the way you want. take care :)

Kymberlie,

It seems like you are having your share of challenges. I really hate it for

you.

My son had a similar response but on Humira. He failed on Enbrel after about 6

months, then went to Humira. The Humira worked well, but he started it weekly.

It is normally prescribed every 2 weeks. It was 18 months before we could wean

him down to every 2 weeks. Now, he is off steroids and just on the Humira. He

couldn't take MTX because of GI symptoms, but takes plaquenil.

Our next drug of choice would have been Orencia, had we failed the Humira. With

your daughter's Crohns though, I am not sure what would be your next choice.

There are several on the market, but I'm not sure which are approved for both JA

and Crohns. It is a tough call. It seems like the docs have her on everything

they can.

Unfortunately anti-inflammatories are hard on the tummy. Have you tried

Solareze gel on her joints? There are also Lidocaine (lidoderm) patches to help

numb the joint. Sometimes a good physical therapist can lower the pain level as

well.

I wish I had more ideas. She is just a complicated baby! I'll keep you all in

my prayers.
