Al,

The question is first, what are you juicing? Second, how much you are

doing? Third, how much is considerably? (what are the numbers on your

glucose tests and when are you doing them?)

I do 10 oz of beet juice per day. My fasting sugar never is above 100 in

the morning, frequently it is in the 85-90 range. I VERY RARELY do apples

or other fruit. I juice a lot of greens. Prior to cancer, my sugar was

frequently in the 105-110 range for morning fast testing. There are a lot

of hidden sugars in what you eat and just juicing is only part of the

equation. What your diet is like is every bit as important.

Drop a note and lets see if we can work through it.

Hi Bruce and everyone else,

Here is a question, I have Stage III Colon Cancer. Have changed

my diet and just started juiceing. My naturopath said to stay

away from sugar but most of my recipes call for carrots or apples

to make the juice more palatible.

My glucose has gone up considerably in the last two weeks. That is when I

started my juicing program.

What about the sugar in carrots, beets and apples affecting cancer.

Bruce:

You said that you drink 10oz. of beet juice a day...........Do you

drink 10 oz. at one time or do you divide it up during the day?

If someone is diabetic......Can you drink 4 oz. of carrot/apple

juice mixed with 4 oz. of water, four times a day............and

drink the green juices in between the carrot/apple juices?

If I was diabetic, I think I'd only juice greens.

Hi Al,

I would guess that the fruit juices are the culprits in sending your

glucose up. That's five servings of fruit in your juice which adds up

to a very high glycemic load. I suggest stopping the juicing of fruit

altogether and see what happens on your next glucose test.

Just eat two low sugar fruits a day such as apple, pink grapefruit,

strawberries [which have ellagic acid - an excellent cancer fighter] -

you can buy frozen organic strawberries and use a half cup a day -

that is one serving. You can also buy blueberries or raspberries -

equally good cancer-fighters with ellagic acid.

Also, I suggest adding some kale to your vegetable juice. It's a great

vegetable that is full of good vitamins and minerals.

GLYCEMIC INDEX RATINGS & GLYCEMIC LOAD

Below is a partial list of the GI of some common fruits. This list

uses glucose as the standard which has a rating of 100.

A GI of 55 or less ranks as low, a GI of 56 to 69 is medium, and a GI

of 70 or more ranks as high. The other point to consider is the

GLYCEMIC LOAD, meaning the AMOUNT you are using.

Five servings of fruits in a juice would add up to a glycemic load of

about 250 or more in one serving. That's too much. But a half cup of

low glycemic fruit twice a day should be fine and would probably not

cause a glucose reaction. Also, by eating the whole fruit, you are

getting the fiber which is valuable.

I happen to drink it at one time. At this point my cancer is dormant. I am

not diabetic although I was on the fast track to type II before I did

dietary changes, etc.

I frankly would not be drinking very much of any kind of fruit juice. Even

though apple scores low on the glycemic index, the amount taken will

override the index number.

If you were to follow the BREUSS juice fast, you would be doing 10 oz beets,

2 oz celery, 2 oz radish, and roughly 2 oz potato juice daily, split up a

couple of tablespoons at a time. If you are diabetic, you need to be

splitting any juice up as much as ten or 12 times daily to keep the sugar

levels stable. Greens will be better for you than fruits, for the most

part.

Al,

Fruits typically will not raise your blood sugar except bananas, and

green peppers and/or tomatos may be raising your blood sugar if they are

YOUR food triggers. New research has shown that the glycemic index is a

good average at best, and that foods that cause a spike in blood sugar

vary from one person to the next. Let me know where you live and I can

let you know if there is someone in your area that can give you a food

trigger assessment. This can be done with a biofeedback system in 5

minutes for about $35 - $40. In the meantime, try cutting out the

bananas, tomatos and peppers and check you levels, then add them back in

individually to see if you can isolate what your triggers are.

Dear Al,

My apologies for taking so long to get back with you. It took me a

while to find someone in your area. I have now located two VivaTouch

specialists. One is in Bellevue and one is in Kennewick. Which would

be closer to you? Again, the VivaTouch is a biofeedback device that can

assess you and tell you non-invasively in 5 minutes which foods would

cause an inappropriate blood sugar response and what nutritional

products your body is asking for.
