Two really good books... This one's my favorite: http://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Targets-Bullying-Practical-Solutions-Surviving/dp/1931282188/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & s=books & qid=1266783833 & sr=8-1 . The other is http://www.amazon.com/Asperger-Syndrome-Bullying-Strategies-ebook/dp/B0032UXSB8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8 & s=digital-text & qid=1266783833 & sr=8-2. There's a professor researching bullying and AS and he is very personable. He would probably be willing to talk to you as well. http://www.fau.edu/~hinduja/. Best of luck!

Looking for parent support group in the Reston/Herndon area. Also resources on Bullying and Aspergers or HFA. My child was diagnosed last week after me seeking intervention for a bullying problem at school. Advice, resources, words of encouragement welcomed. Also can I access the general blog to view discussions or no?

Hi Mhi,

How old is your child? My son is 5 and is dx'd with HFA, ADHD, Sensory

Processing Disorder, and Dyspraxia. We live in Fairfax. I have not attended a

local support group, but rely on on-line groups. I do know there is a support

group (for all ASD) that meets monthly in the mornings in Springfield.

Best wishes,

" AS-NV " . If you don't already subscibe to it, you may want to join.

Take care,

Im not exactly sure how it works where you are, but after the columbine

shootings there was acountry wide fight against " bullying " in schools. most

school no tollerance for bullying policies are a bunch of bunk, and the schools

hide behind " no one saw it happen " to cover themselves.

BUT

if your child was just diagnosed with asperger, that makes him a " special needs

student " that also means you can go directly to the superintendant of the school

system and let him know you are willling to go very public that they allow

bullying in their schools to children that cant defend themselves.

you have 3 choices.

1) demand the child that is the bully be expelled (depending on his age)

2) demand the child be warned (with his parents present) that he will be

expelled if he continues.

3) demand that the school system pay to have your child put in a safe enviroment

by making the school system bus him (at their cost) to another school.

schools know that it can become " very legal " if they allow it to go on.

and most arent willing to let it go public.

take it from someone who was bullied in school. usually the bully learns from

home how to do what they do. so your best bet is to demand the bully be expelled

or sued. " their choice " . if you bring this to the news, there is " hell to pay "

on the school systems end, and they dont want that.

it is hard for them to stop bullying for 2 neural-typical people.

but is verrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyy illegal for them not to act " imediately " to

put a stop to this for your childs situation.
