Guest guest
Hi Diane; " In Aruba in March, my knee buckled again and I almost fell down a flight of stairs into the casino! Luckily, my niece caught me.....I feel like I'm a stumbling drunk! " I try and always make sure there is a banister near by on steps. The first few years of this and I fell down many stairs. But I know what you mean by being like " a stumbling drunk! " One good thing about this list is that we find others like ourselves, not that I would wish it upon anybody, but doctors just don't know what to think. I had stopped saying anything, but it may be part of teh PA. Will be going back on the 2nd to see Rhuemy and I will bring it up. Thanks for sharing, Mitch Rev. Guest guest
Diane and others who have talked about knees " going out " on them, Quite a few years ago my youngest son had this problem.....we could be anywhere and all of a sudden he was back behind me on the floor and his knee had gone out on him, he would just slide the knee back into place and get back up. He did exercises to strenghten muscles but that wasn't enough and eventually had both knees operated on - now at 28 years of age he does pretty well, the surgeries were around 13 years of age. I'd think this condition is more of an orthopedic problems rather than a PA problem? Guest guest
I also have a mysterious collapsing knee problem. It has only happened about 3 or 4 times, always my right knee. I'll be walking along and all of the sudden I'm flat on my face with no warning. The last time it happened was last June, when I was in Ireland. The doctors are unable to explain it or even understand exactly what I'm trying to describe to them. Take care, Becky [ ] Re: Leg/knee collapsing My knee gives out at very inappropriate times. Hurray, hurray for me! >> Diane - Good for you for setting her straight! I'm a bit sensitive to this issue myself as I have a hanicapped parking permit and often when I'm having a good day, people give me a dirty look for parking in a space marked handicapped when I don't " look " handicapped. I want to tell them - try walking a mile in my shoes - and see if you don't want to be able to park closer to the door as coming out of the store after walking around, I look a bit more handicapped! Hope your leg is holding up today!
Guest guest
dianne , i know what you mean . ....sometimes that stumbling thing happens to me . my husband usually walks in front of me espescially if i am going down stairs. on a particular day i was at the hospital and i was going down the stairs very slowly and very carefully hoping i would not fall . a man was waiting to pass on the stairs and was being very patient .i was holding on to the railing for dear life and my husband was facing me walking backwards as he always does in case i fall . then he looks at me and very seriously says .....Let me know if your going to fall .....SO I CAN GET OUT OF THE WAY ...i started laughing so hard i almost fell down the stairs and the guy and my husband we were all laughing...it still makes me chuckle whenever i am struggling down stairs .. it certainly broke the tension cathy from mass
Guest guest
I never go down steps without at least one hand on a rail. I just have these awful mental pictures of ending up at the bottom sprawled in awkward angles. Of course, I go much more slowly with PA, so I think that's saved me some of the clumsy accidents. =) At least it's helped in one area! Guest guest
You are not alone. I too haave my knees or feet do the same. I can't say as I have fallen, knock on wood, cause I've been able to catch myself. I truely think the PA has something to do with it. Hi Sinead, Wise words! A friend of mine, who was in his 70's, had a problem with his knees a couple of years ago. He could barely get around. He was to proud to aid himself with a walking stick, (many times I tried to convince him that he should have one). One day, he was out with his Wife, and they visited a little Cafe here in the UK. He had to pay a visit to the toilet, which was down about 12 steps in the Cafe. You've guessed! He fell, took a nasty bang on the head, was admitted to Hospital, and a few days later, I lost a very good friend. I know we can't go back in time, but I just wished he had listened to me re the walking stick. With our conditions, we cannot afford to be proud. Guest guest
I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what it is like to lose somebody you hold dear. God bless you and keep you. One day you will be reunited-until then just remember he is in a much better place right now than any of us because he has no more pain and could do anything he desires with no side or after effects. Doesn't that sound just like "HEAVEN"? Take care. Sharon
