Guest guest
Hi , I have patches of psoriasis on my feet, legs, arm, scalp and one eyelid. I too get the itches especially on my hands, upper back and sacral area. I suffer from food intolerances however and often get the itches which when I start to scratch or rub develop into hives sometimes. It makes life very uncomfortable....often I have to take antihistamines or go and have a hot shower. I have a severe itch on the bottom of my left foot. The skin looks dry but the itch is deep. Doctors don't know what it is. I guess maybe it is a PA thing. Guest guest
Yes, I get this often....where there is psoriasis as well as where there isn't. I use cortisone cream (over the counter) and it does help a little. The hard part is trying not to scratch. The scratching only makes it itch more and causes the skin to get sore, sometimes even bleed. It is definitely internal (under the skin), as you see nothing on the outside. Who knows why this happens? [ ] insatiable itch anyone else get this? > I am finding that though my psoriasis is only on my scalp ears and > elbows, I get itchy all over. Guest guest
I have that on a heel where the skin is thick from the psoriasis but the itch is coming from deep beneath the skin. I also have it pretty bad on a finger where, believe it or not, the only source of relief is to put that damned joint in my mouth and chew on it. I also have it in places where there is no psoriasis or symptoms of PA. Sometimes I feel like a million little bugs are crawling all over me. I have to wait two months before I can see a dermatologist so I guess I'm to be a victim of this torture for a little while more ----Original Message----- From: ihvkids@... I am sorry for everybody who is putting up with this 'itchy' thing. And then again I am happy to learn I am not alone. Since I returned to work which corresponded to the 'kick in' of the plaquenil and arava I have been experiencing bouts of itching. Mostly on my scalp and do I get looks from people at work when they see me itching! I also have itching on the bottoms of my feet (which by the way-I dab it with alcohol and it usually stops it). My back itches and my thighs itch. I try not to scratch too much because I get tremendous hemorrhages under the skin because I am on coumadin. I thought maybe I was getting an allergic reaction to the medications. But-------as far as the " bugs crawling " feeling, I know from my own experience this was due to nerve irritation. The doctor told me the nerves get irritated or injured it could cause that feeling. I haven't had it for a while but I remember the feeling. Hope the doc can give you something for it. Well, I finally had the upper and lower GI series done and the scope down the throat really irritated it but the doc called and told me I have a perfect digestive track from one end to the other. No signs anywhere of cancer and no signs of bleeding. So that was ruled out as the reason for my low hemoglobin count. That coupled with excellent results of my last blood test leaves the docs 'itching' the heads trying to come up with a reason for my count to be low. By the way, I had to drink a gallon of some stuff to clean your digestive tract the day prior to the colonoscopy. The following morning I felt better than I had in soooooooo looooooooong. I had energy galore and woke up without drowsiness. I attribute it to not being able to eat anything after starting that gallon of what I will call slime. It is nasty and very hard to get down so I didn't have anything to eat from 3:00 pm till after the tests the following day around 3:00 pm. And with that I was about ready to try going off some of the meds but it didn't last long because by the next day I was back to being tired, depressed and just plain yucky again. Now if only I could get a routine of fasting 1 day out of every week maybe I could get some of the old get and go back in my life. My rheumatologist is weaning me off predisone (YEAAAH!!!) And because I couldn't take some of my meds prior to have the scopes of which one was vioxx I forgot to get it refilled. I didn't even miss it until this weekend when I decided to help clean the house. Although I didn't do too much my wrists and shoulders started a 'dull ache' which is a whole heck of a lot better than the pain I would normally have after doing anything physical. Makes me believe the arava and plaquenil are really doing their jobs. And it makes me hope that I won't have to take it twice a day everyday. Getting off any med is such a feeling of accomplishment. Oh well that is about I have to report at this time. I know I haven't been posting as much as I normally do but being back at work and doing computer work all day long I am not exhausted by the time I get home I don't even want to see the computer at home. I ready most of the emails and I will post when I have anything new to share. Chicagoland Sharon
Guest guest
Hey, here. When I was flaring, I used to get an itch like that on or near the joint that was going to hurt and become inflamed next. I just came to believe that it was a symptom of a build up of inflamation in my body. My skin does hurt a lot from time to time and I think this is a reaction to the anti-inflamatories that I take. I have always had skin which would hurt when I got a fever or when i took very many advil. I think I have a lot of histamine floating around in my body which contributes to skin itchiness etc. Also my skin is pretty dry and taking essential oils and making sure that I moisturize with things that have no alcohol at all in them helps. Guest guest
I will try to find out, but my husbands sister had this going on and they diagnosed her with something to do with her liver. Like I said I will try to find out. That was her biggest symptom, and the only one I remember her talking about. But she said she itched so badly (no rash) but scratching didn't even help because she felt like it was so far below her skin. She'd say she was itching from the inside out. Guest guest
I have found 2 shampoos that work great for the itching and help reduce the plaques... They are: Nioxin - there is a shampoo & conditioner - both leave your scalp feeling all tingly and fresh Mitchel Tea Tree Shampoo & conditioner - same here - nice tingly clean feel I like these because they smell nice - those coal raat shampoos are just aweful - I have blonde hair and they leave this orangy greasy film on my hair .... I just thought I'd share this ... They helped me stop picking at my scalp ... and worked great for the itching ... I also try not to use very many styling products - spritzer & hairspray really make the scalp itch !!! --- momscmbc@... wrote: > In a message dated 10/21/01 4:36:12 AM Central > Daylight Time, > heather.watson@... writes: > > > > Sometimes I feel like a > > million little bugs are crawling all over me. > > I am sorry for everybody who is putting up with this > 'itchy' thing. Guest guest
Has anyone tried something like " Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Soothing Relief, Anti-Itch Moisturizer " or some of the other ointments that contain Xylocaine or Lidocaine Ointment for itching? Some of them are available OTC, but some, like the 5% Lidocaine Ointment require a prescription. The Neutrogena Norwegian Formula has 2% Lidocaine Hydrochloride in it, and it supposedly helps moisturize too. I just thought to look for something like Xylocaine in an ointment, gel, or spray on form on the internet this evening, and there seems to be plenty of different products available (even Bactine has some Lidocaine in it as does sunburn medications etc). Seems like these would be a great idea for Psoriasis itch, except for the really " deep " itching that some have mentioned. I'm really surprised that I hadn't thought of this sooner, and that my dermatologist hasn't suggested it. -- Ron > whew right in there with you on that itch thing , I > itch all over but on bottom left foot insatiable itch > there , I go nuts when that starts . Guest guest
I forgot about the time I got this so badly. I am still waiting to hear from my sister in law on what her liver condition is that causes this itch that never goes away. For bad cases, I don't know how this med interacts with other things and it does cause drowsiness, but I was once prescribed something called hydroxyzine that helped somewhat. I just could not be tired from it too. So had to stop it.
