Guest guest
Yes, you want the recipes in the GAPS book (although I imagine they are also in the Internal Bliss book which I haven't yet read).Yes, watch the BMs to know when you're ready to move on. When any diarrhea has stopped or the frequency of BMs has decreased (some people go through a 'clean out' phase during the intro diet and will have multiple BMs in a day). Yes, kefir can be made with goat, cow's or even coconut milk. Some people may be sensitive to yeast, though, so may not be able to tolerate kefir or any other fermented products. It's tricky because you may be okay with your sensitivity test for plain dairy but not fermented dairy. On Nov 4, 2010, at 8:32 PM, thelongsfarm wrote: O.K. I am trying to get my hands on that book again. Do I gauge the BM to know when we are ready to move on to stage 2, 3 etc? It didn't really say how to know when we are ready to move on to the next stage of the intro diet. Also in stage 3 or 4 it mentions kefir, now would that be made with milk if we pass the sensitivity test? Thanks, Jan

Guest guest
My son didn't have diarrhea either; he tended to have hard stools and constipation. It turns out he had an overgrowth of yeast. The intro diet would have gotten rid of the yeast quickly and cleared out his bowels which would've helped him along much faster. Instead we just did the GAPS diet (grain-free, dairy-free with probiotics and other supplements) but he still struggled with yeast for months. If I had done the intro diet he would've been MUCH better off. Those with mild leaky gut issues will progress through the intro diet very quickly, probably within days. I don't think anyone will regret doing the intro diet, but could regret not doing it. On Nov 5, 2010, at 1:52 PM, Hill wrote: What if you don't have any diahrrea ever? O.K. Guest guest
Then you look to your other symptoms - whether constipation, itchiness, eczema, aches, fatigue, joint pain, headaches, depression. I would say that if after a few weeks on the intro diet, you are feeling no improvement, look to another source. For instance, do you have Candida overgrowth? Do you have an allergy to one or more of the foods you are allowed to eat on the intro diet? Or to your laundry soap? High levels of toxicity? If you are convinced it's food related, I would do a short (4 day) fast. Why 4 days? Because that's how long it takes to eliminate any remnant of a food from your system. (Or you could do a 10 day detox) On the 5th day, start with one food per day that you think is safe - veggies or protein are the safest. Eat nothing but that one thing that day and monitor how you feel. Eat a different thing the next day, but again, only one. If you have eliminated all allergens, each day you should feel better. You should be able to build a list of foods that you can eat. There are are two fairly robust ways to check your reaction to a food. One is to take your temperature after you eat that food. You first have to build a baseline with a food you know is safe. Once you know how much your temperature goes up after you eat that's safe, you can see that it goes up even more when you are allergic to something. The other way is the make a mash of a food, dilute it with filtered water and apply a thin paste to the inside of your wrist before you go to bed at night. Redness and swelling on that spot are signs of a food you are allergic to. At any point, if you feel a return of the symptoms, eliminate the last food you added and write it down on the " allergic " list. At some point later, when you are feeling well, you can test that food again and see if you still react. It may take a while.
