Yes I know what you mean - I still have parents, family and my boss telling me that I am the parent not my child and he should comply with everything that is asked of him. Are people actually looking for a cure?? Is there information about this out there? I'd like to read it myself. Guest guest Posted March 17, 2010 Report Share Posted March 17, 2010 , I'd like to point out that there are girls diagnosed with Aspergers and I think they, especially my sister who is an aspie, might disagree with your idea about us (female teachers) just diagnosing boys who are being boys as aspies. While I understand there are many pluses about being an aspie and many things I enjoy being a sib, there are also many struggles, like being paralyzed by anxiety over not understanding complex social situations. I'd also like to point out that Aspergers is not who I am, just like being a woman is not who I am. I might be a woman that shares many characteristics with other woman, but it's not the only thing that identifies who I am as a person. Because Roxanna wishes things caused by AS symptoms were different for her son, doesn't mean there isn't a lot about him as a person aside from the AS symptoms that she loves. She doesn’t MENTION the money that she’s had to throw hand over fist at the best OT, PT, SL, etc… she hasn’t mentioned the fact that when she walks into a specialists office, they drop everything to assist her. She hasn’t mentioned that they have a personal chef that cooks their GFCF meals. If ANY of us had the access to supports and services she does, and that her son CONTINUES to access, we’d have seen such amazing results, too. But let’s face it… we don’t. I am ALL for supporting celebrities who use their status to help raise awareness on certain topics. But NOT when they aren’t sharing the whole story, and when they are sending out false hopes… AND when they are basing their beliefs about vaccines on “hunches” and coincidental experiences, rather than FACT. What works for one, may not work for another. And the claim that if everyone does what SHE'S done (Yeah right, like most of us even HAVE that option!), our child will be " cured " . Funny part is, her son still has Autism. He's not " CURED " . He's just functioning VERY well thanks to all the supports they've accessed, and continue to access. He's gotten to a place where he's pretty much like " all the other 'normal' kids " . He's still not CURED. =) Re: ( ) Re: Parenthood Though she's not the only parent of autism that I've heard get a " cure " from things like a gfcf diet. And I don't blame any parent who has the $ for trying everything. Locally there are parents who 2nd mortgage their house, work 3 jobs etc to try and be able to afford all she can. But it is unfair that her status gets her things we couldn't even buy. Yes she leaves out a lot of stuff but that doesn't mean some of the stuff she does say isn't true. I just don't think that all autistic kids can be " cured " that way. Everything we've tried hasn't even helped some. Guest guest Posted March 18, 2010 Report Share Posted March 18, 2010 Same here, plus b/c they don't take insurance when you do file it yourself you only get back your smaller out of network covered percentage after reaching my 3x higher out of network deductible and everything is based off insurances allowable amount at that so basically pennies on the dollar. I talked to someone the other day though that had a $3k out of network deduxtible so guess I shouldn't complain about our $750. And on the other note, yes I do only do 1 non prescribed treatment at a time b/c I need to know what works as iif I can't pinpoint it, what do you continue. The only time things semi overlapped was like diet, I would elliminate 1 at a time but might elliminate another before the 1st was completely back in the system, or if I did a food diary I would remove all things that came up as a culprit at once. But like fish oil I did for like 9 month before I tried anything else with it, etc. And individually I haven't found anything that had a significant difference.
