Guest guest
Hi everyone, I think it is important to remind everyone that we do notice overall about 15% of people taking LDN for MS do not seem to get any help from it. We have also noticed that many people experience worsening of symptoms, re-visiting old symptoms or even having new problems for a short period of time and then they usually get better and go on to experience the benefits of LDN. It is scary when you take a medicine hoping to get better and you are feeling worse. But since this happens enough that we are used to seeing it and seeing people get through it with good results, we try and encourage those taking LDN to ride through it. Understandably not everyone can tolerate worsening symptoms and they must keep asking themselves if this med is making them worse or if they are part of that 15% that just won't get better on it. Other options that might help while going through a difficult period of time with increasing symptoms include: 1. Checking on who is providing your LDN to make sure they are formulating it correctly and with a filler that works best for you. I usually recommend going through one of the pharmacies listed on the LDN web site that have been providing LDN successfully for an extended period of time. 2. We also have seen some that have not been doing better with LDN test for Lymes and find out that they never actually had MS. We recommend testing with a Lymes literate doctor. Apparently some of the general tests for Lymes may not catch or diagnose it accurately. 3. We have also seen a number of cases where people were not feeling better with LDN and then they get checked for Candida (overgrowth of yeast in your body - many times stemming from use of antibiotics). If they find they have a high concentration of Candida and they go through the process of getting it under control LDN tends to work much better for them. 4. Keeping stress in check. Time and time again we find that exasperations come up in times of extreme stress. This even happens to those that are doing well with LDN use. We cannot emphasize enough to find ways to reduce stress in your life. 5. For the reduction in side effects we typically recommend starting LDN at a very low dosage and building your way up to 3 or 4.5. Most people that try this start at 1.5mg, and gradually go up to 3 or 4.5 until they feel at their best. Over the past couple of years we have been saving chats regarding problems associated with the many illnesses and/or problems that are helped by or associated with LDN use. Many times we try and forward on the solutions found by other chatters from this site. If you have questions or problems please write regarding the problems to the chat site and we will send you what we can find that has been saved. Some of these problems and solutions found include: stiffness, sleep, fatigue, etc. We also have been forwarding messages regarding other supplements that have helped others with certain ailments like pain, depression, eye problems etc. For those that have been on this chat site and have had success with this wonderful drug we stay on only to help others get there too. Guest guest
Dear all, Is there anyone who can give me information about doing an MRI? I would like to get an MRI done now before too much time goes by taking LDN and to see what lesions I have or activity/non activity. I have to do it privately because thru the Natl health care system here they won't give you the papers or tests. to do this at a private clinic I need to know what needs to be done. Can someone knowledgeable tell me what area should be done and how? later on, I would do another to compare it and and share any interesting results. thank you, Miki-MS Re: [low dose naltrexone] Re: LDN Trouble Shooting guide Hi everyone, I think it is important to remind everyone that we do notice overall about 15% of people taking LDN for MS do not seem to get any help from it. Guest guest
I can only tell you about the brain MRI (but you can have lesions in your spine, too) and how my scripts were written. You need a MRI of the brain with and w/o contrast. Most of mine were done in the reg MRI (enclosed/tube), I had one done in the open MRI and the dr. made them repeat it in the closed. He said the open isn't good enough for MS. He, also, mentioned he wanted thin slices, my MRI facility does that anyway. (I have 3 lesions and it stayed that way over 8 yrs. or 9 and I had the MS symptoms, and was given the diagnosis. Later I found out I have late stage Lyme disease.) jan > > Dear all, > Is there anyone who can give me information about doing an MRI? I started LDN in Sept 07 and began to have increasing episodes of what we thought were Chrons related attacks. By Nov 07 I was dx with severe gallbaladder issues and blockage - I ended up having a procedure to remeove the blockage and then a sx to remove the gallbaldder by laproscopic insicsion. The laproscopic procedure failed as the gallbladder burst and I had it removed abdominal -along with a hernia repair.I have had a number of health issues that coincided with my taking LDN - high liver emzymes - gallbladder - cataract(s)that literally developed in a 4-6mth period.I recently had surgery to fix one eye.Don't get me wrong - I feel the benifit from the LDN is/was substantial and will likey start taking it again soon - there is no concrete evidence that LDN was responsible for the health issues - nor is there any evidence to say it was not.One has to decide on a personal level if that medication is providing benifit to ones aliments. Guest guest
Crystal, This is excellent info to have in one place. You might want to add on ette's advice that, for IBD people, the transdermal cream version of LDN may be more beneficial than the oral. I went up to 3.0 on 9-24-08. On 10-1-08 I got horrible diarrhea something fierce and abdominal pain (upper and lower). I also felt slightly nauseous. On 10-4-08 I noticed a slight headache. I thought it was sinus related and that it would pass. I took a Seudafed PE yesterday and it did not even touch it. The diarrhea seems to have improved with a less lose and more firm bowel, but the headache and nausea remains. I get my LDN from The Compounder in Aurora, Illinois. I was told they use Avicel filler. I did notice others have issue on the avicel. I also read elsewhere on this site that some people have these issues due to the increased endorphins and it will take the body sometime for it to get used to it. Otherwise, the LDN is GREAT! I can breathe like I did before the sarc, thos enice, deep breathes that I could not take over 2 weeks ago. SO...is it the filler? Is this a side effect that will pass? Should I lower from 3.0mg/night to 1.5mg/night? I also was taking 50mcg of Synthroid, I lowered it to 25 mcg this morning per MD. Thanks for your help. ------------ --------- --------- ------

Guest guest
great post. thank goodness we have you keeping it all together.  i honestly feel that before anyone starts ldn they should take some probiotics at least for a few weeks. i've told folks to do this little protocol before or  concurrently: aloe juice for a few weeks (and stay home the first few days), probiotics for a few weeks, and some digestive enzymes (unless you have a ulcer) for a few weeks and for the most part it puts peoples bellys back together. We have an entire life time of abusing our guts and i doubt if there is anyone here that has not taken antibiotics or even multiple kinds of otc medications that have messed with our stomach.  ( I never ever had heartburn after doing this and i was eating tums all day)and I really believe the stress is everyone's worse enemy. The doc I'm working on right this moment has to do with music ( is music therapy? looking at what goes on physically inside the body and what kind of real life applications do we have for treatment) and my  basic science guy is a director of complex systems and brain science for the national institute of mental health as well as a fullbright scholar. at this point i can say if something as simple as if rhythms and tones can affect us in a positive or negative way then keeping our stress under check is really paramount- not only for you guys with chronic diseases but for all of us. stress negatively impacts your entire systemhere are a few articleshttp://www.brainconnection.com/topics/?main=fa/selye3http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Selyehe really was the one that put the mind-body connection together a long time ago.
