Guest guest
Donna, I dose all supplements throughout the day so it is better absorbed. My son is 60 lbs and his dosing for the day is his weight (60) + 20 = 80 mg per day. I personally think it is better to divide anything (supplements) that you give to you children throughout the day whether it is 3 x's a day or 4 x's a day. HTH, jackie--- > Sorry to be asking sooo many questions lately. Like others, it seems > the more i read, the more confused i get! Is it better to give zinc > at night? Guest guest
That does makes sense to do the dosing thru out the day. Thanks for your input! donna > > Donna, > I dose all supplements throughout the day so it is better absorbed. My son > is 60 lbs and his dosing for the day is his weight (60) + 20 = 80 mg per > day. Guest guest
My personal feeling is that that is quite a high amount of zinc. Was he tested as deficient? Even so it could affect his appetite--one way or the other. Zinc deficiency causes loss of taste, but large amounts of zinc supplementation can kill the appetite. So if you really want to give this much...and I wouldn't do that for more than 3 months without reevaluating it with his doctor...certainly break it up during the day. Guest guest
Dana, how can you give the zinc throughout the day if you are giving other supplelments? For example, I give my son his calcium and other supplements in the morning and in the evening. I was told to give the zinc away from the other supplements, so I give the zinc at one time at lunch time. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks, R. Guest guest
Okay, I spread out the zinc today with one at each meal. In Chandless' book she recommends Magnesium (the glycinate being the most asorbable) 200 - 400 mg/day. (3 or 4mg per pound of body weight). But these tablets are HUGE! Not sure even my son will swallow them and he usually swallows anything, but they are usually capsules. Thanks for the help! Donna > > > > Sorry to be asking sooo many questions lately. Also, it is a mineral, so you can bake it into things if you want. Dana

Guest guest
I am new here. Excuse my ignorance. I need to know why an autistic child would need zinc if they are up to par on a nutritional analysis? We are not chelating in the sense. We are using diet. I do have some chelated zinc I think, but have never tried it with my dd. Can someone talk a bit about the use of zinc in asd kids? How much do you start with, etc. I want to learn what I can about how it helps these kids. Thanks. I need to know why an autistic child would need zinc if they are up to par on a nutritional analysis? Depends on the zinc/copper ratio. Most kids are low or normal zinc, and high copper. Giving zinc will reduce the copper. Dana
