Any input on Taurine vs GABA?

Do people have any experience with taurine versus GABA? Is one more

effective than the other? I had been doing Taurine but when I started

SCD diet I stopped all supplements to get a baseline and now I plan on

adding things in 1 at a time. Read about GABA and was wondering if

people thought this was helpful.

Jenna,

Depends on the kid. Each is soooo different.

My dd can tolerate lots of taurine. I tried GAABA, as suggested by

DAN, and woooo, lost the idea of personal space, very impulsive, weird

reaction. Maybe she just wasn't ready for it? Taurine for her much

better than Gaba. But yours may be different. And I am talking a very

little GABA

Hi, I thought these were interesting questions...in a search found

this detailed nfo:

http://www.vrp.com/art/453.asp?

c=1150047343765 & k=/det/7054.asp & m=/includes/ & p=no & s=0

The only thing I would also note that tranquilizers like xanax make

the body produce more GABA, prescribed assuming there is a

deficiency....my regular psychiatrist advised not to give GABA to my

kids, but admitted to not knowing much about Taurine or other AAs,

which my holistic dr prescribed my son.

Before asking the psych I had given both PDD sons GABA and initially

they were VERY realxed, but the next few times, not much noticable

change.

My hubby just started to take gaba recently for OCD and anxiety. He feels much

more positive with it. My ASD son started taking it last week per our DAN doc

suggestion and it has been fine so far, although no major change. We have just

added in a few things though and are not sure which is working best. He has

improved recently overall.

We have had our daughter on GABA, TAURINE, Inositol, 5htp,glutathione, and

Tyrosine all at the same time per our integrative doc. All of these help

different issues for her. The question I have is, has anyone tried the LL

magnetic clay and Bio-Chelat? I'm concerned if they pull out her prozac dosage

or whether that would matter since the prozac fixes the symptoms and the clay

would help her actual healing process. Any experience with clay? Thanks, Dianne

Does anyone use BOTH...taurine and GABA?

If you do, do you give both in the am or pm? I've heard some people

give 1/2 dosage in am and other 1/2 in pm for the GABA...does it depend

on the child? Anyone give 5Htp also .... or again depends on child???

Thanks for any input......Jlo

I use both for my 4yo dd. Here is my schedule. It depends on how her day and

night is/was. Here is a normal day:

AM: 325mg. Taurine (was 500mg)

1 GABA cap. (2 on a bad day)

NOON: 325 mg. Taurine

1GABA

NIGHT (bed): 3mg melatonin

50mg 5HTP

Our guy takes both - he's 4 and about 40 pounds.

I WISH it was doing something about his OCD issues, but no - still

concerned about crooked bathmats and crumpled carpet tassels.

I think that the taurine and gaba have helped with sleeping though the

night more than anything.

Has it helped with language? Has it helped with excitable

behaviors? For example, my daughter tends to act a little giddy

after eating ( I think due to leaky gut/poor digestion - the

glutamates in protein foods may be causing some issues??? She is SCD

so eats a lot of protein now). I've been wondering if GABA could

help (brain calming). She is off of her supps now, I'm trying to

get a baseline and reintroduce slowly to get a better idea of what

is working etc... Thanks for input! Jen
