My DAN suggested I start out with 1/2 capsule and work up from there, my son

is 4 37 lbs. I use to give him 1/2 capsule every day and give more if I

felt he needed it.

I use this for my daughter. I think it helps immensely but I use 2

tops when she needs help ..and 1 every other day or so as maintenance.

I visualize it like " scrubbing bubbles " as it is oxogyen based. My

daughter is nonverbal so she is unable to tell me what it feels like

but she does not appear in discomfort and actually seems more relaxed

as it is doing its thing ;) hth

A mom and an ASD doc uses this and this is what she wanted us to do and she does

the same:

For 3-5 days you give 1 capsule 2x a day.

Then as maintenance 4-5 capsules per week.

For maintenance she says its trial and error to get a good balance.

She explained to me its just a way to get our kids on regular BMs.

Keep in mind she had her 10yr olds gf/cf for at least 5yrs. STRICTLY

No enzymes. Her kids are 50 lbs at this age and also on Buspar. CLO. Not

sure what else they may be on. She is very conservative though. She swears by

this Oxypowder stuff.

It looks like it's basically magnesium -- probably magnesium citrate

and magnesium oxide. Here's the ingredients :

Complex Magnesium compound 3,425mg

Organic Germanium -132 27.5mg

Natural Citric Acid 125mg

Germanium is related to ginseng (not sure which one) and is mentioned

as a chelator.

If you decide to try it, please post your results. I'm curious but

am having fairly good luck with 800mg magnesium citrate in the past

month +/- with my son.

I tried it twice using a much smaller amount than they suggested.

It worked but she had quite a bit of agitation for the next couple

of days which I attribute to the germanium.

I was asked to comment on this. I guess this has been on an

infomercial or 'As Seen On TV' spots? http://www.oxypowder.com

The ingredient list is:

Complex Magnesium compound 3,425mg

Organic Germanium -132 27.5mg

Natural Citric Acid 125mg

From what I can tell, this is very large dose of magnesium presented

with lots of verbage and marketing. Magnesium at large doses has a

laxative effect. Nothing wrong with large doses of magnesium to flush

out the bowels. If I took 3,425 mg of any form of magnesium, I would

have flushed out bowels. But I prefer lots of magnesium as

a 'laxative' over some of the other choices out there for bowel

clensing.

Magnesium oxide is not well absorbed and tends to be quite good at

relieving constipation (because it is not well absorbed). I tend to

favor absorbable forms of magnesium because if the constipation is

caused by a magnesium deficiency, taking an absorbably form is more

likely to fix the problem at the root instead of treating symptoms.

And if you have a magnesium deficiency, you will also have many other

problems associated with mag deficiency...like sleep problems, nerve

problems, muscle problems. So going for an absorbable form may help a

more extensive problem.

But there is nothing wrong with taking large doses of magnesium to

flush out the bowels. Drinking epsom salts will do the same thing.

Many magnesium supplements in the stores are a combination of

magnesium forms as well as this product.

The site does say to drink lots of water. This will help with

the 'flushing' and also to guard against dehydration. The packages of

Epsom salts and Metamucil say the same thing.

I am a big believer in magnesium being one of the first supplements to

try particularly for nerve and gut problems...there is an entire

chapter dedicated to this in my book. My son takes magnesim malate

regularly for constipation and minerals.

This site says it contains some enzymes and a probiotics:

" Oxy-Powder is also the only oxygen based cleanser containing GE-132,

a special blend of aerobic probiotics and enzymes. "

Here is a link to a site comparing various colon clenses and oxypowder

is one of the ones listed..it isn't ranked as best, but definitely not

the worse:

Do you think this would help my son's bloated belly?

Could I use that at the same time I try the AFP Pep & Lacto?

Also do you know anything about Enzymedica's Kid Digest. I think its new.

Thanks

April.

p.s. You really helped me out a lot. Thanks for taking the time.

What are you hoping to learn from the stool sample, and will enzymes

really invalidate that specific test? I would call the doctor or lab,

because I would not want to put my child thru these symptoms. I would

start back the enzymes, and let the test results be whatever they are.

I can't locate the buy 2 get one free offer. Do you have a coupon

code that you could share?

THANK YOU

>

> I just have to say for us, it has been a Godsend. I am one of the

biggest believer's in mag. because it was the silver bullet for my

daughter's rabbit pellet type of constipation she had always had for

her first 6 years before finding mag. Then poof, that problem was

over, taking mag. just made it all normal. So when my son's

constipation issues got real bad of course I went for the mag. But

his constipation issues were different. Unlike my daughter who

would still go almost every day, he would not. And the worst part

is when he did they were like solid bricks, and he would scream in

pain. Sorry to be graphic here, but I believe part of the key would

be for us some day to be able to identify what kind of constipations

are out there, different roots and different fixes. Which would

explain why of the top 10 items listed on Dana's site, some really

work wonders for some kids and do nothing for others. My son, at 4

and only around 35 lbs, 500mg. of mag. a day would do absolutely

nothing and 1K would make it completely runny. I think I even tried

750mg and still varied from one or the other extreme.

>

> But 1 oxypowder a day for my son does the trick to make him go

about 4-5 X a week, consistency a little mushy like, but the best

part is it does not hurt at all. Probably not uncommon but which it

being such an emotional/physical event he would not give up the

diaper. Finally with oxypowder and the pain gone, the diaper went

shortly after. We also have had to battle bacteria issues with him

even though he is NT, but I swear oxypowder has helped here too. I

think at the beginning I may have noticed it made him a bit

grumpier, but it was short lived and now it's just salvation for

us. Only not good thing is the problem is still there. If we skip

a night, he starts to get " owie " poops again. I haven't been

diligent about enzymes which I want to do to see if maybe that could

be a more permanent fix. I've followed this closely though, and so

much of the right dose is going to vary from person to person.

>

> the mag. we tried said it was: " from mag. oxide, citrate,

malate " for both my son and daughter. Doesn't say what the blend is,

so tough to tell the ratio's though. Daughter has definite other

signs as you mention of mag. deficiency. So perhaps this is why it

worked at more of a root level for her. But for son who does not

seem to have mag. deficiencies, then the laxative form was the only

thing kicking in at high doses-but 500 mg. for a small kid is a lot

and it did nothing. Guess the real test might be to try him on

straight mag. oxide and see if I can get a middle ground result just

as I am with oxypowder? I do use this every day but if I could find

a fix with straight mag. I would prefer that. However If he still

gets the runs, would have to really wonder if their claim to having

the secret potion of enzymes/probiotics might really be the

difference for some?

>

> They are having a buy 3 bottles and get 1 free sale, and I'm

loading up. My heart actually hurts when I think what if I couldn't

get the product. The horrific experience he used to go through were

unbearable for both of us (I don't know who cried harder). What

ever the fix is, please have hope and keep trying to find your

child's silver bullet-no one should have to go through this.

We haven't done it yet however, our doc said to do 1 cap 2x a day for 3-5 days

and then after that to do like a cap 4-5 times per week. She said its really a

trial and error kind of thing.

Has anyone heard of Dual Action Cleanse? The ingredients look really natural.

They are a 2 supplement combo. It may not work as fast as oxypowder but I was

just looking at it. The document that linked in a previous email says its

ranked better than the oxypowder.

Any thoughts on that?

april.
