Guest guest
godshelp76-Look at the ingredients in Sprite. I would definitely eliminate that. I think that it could be a problem, even aside from a possible yeast issue. However, Sprite and Rice milk both could certainly be feeding yeasts. Have you tried mixing the Rice milk with other things? (Darifree, any fruits-pureed-which he can tolerate-frozen ice in a slushy consistency, etc to minimize his exposure to the Rice milk, and allow his tastebuds to adjust gradually, so that he might not feel deprived.) Have you experimented with other things, like Rice Dreams ice cream, eaten as is, or stirred up and blended with rice milk, or added to organic,no food colorings, preservatives, corn syrup soda as a float? [These are NOT suggestions to try if it is yeast, just things to use as occasional treats if yeast is not the issue, to help him feel less deprived.] Also, check out the recipes on the ANDI website which are CF/GF. If you fill him up with yummy things that are OK for him, he's less likely to want the " bad " stuff! Also, which type of rice milk does he have (plain, vanilla, etc.) Vanilla flavoring can cause problems in some of our kids. Also, some rice milks may contain trace amounts of gluten-check the box carefully, or call the company. Chronic cough:The first things that I would think about are inhalant allergies (pollens, molds-does it happen more often when the weather is damp? Do you have a HEPA air filter?), post nasal drip-caused by bacterial or fungal infection, or allergies, food allergies (is there any snoring?), or an asthmatic reaction (could be triggered by allergies). (Are there any chemical sensitivities? If so, you might want to add milk thistle extract.) Are you supplementing with any type of EFA? I take Flaxseed oil (Barleans) which is a good anti-inflammatory, and I give it to my son; many people like fish oils (Nordic Naturals, Carlson), as long as they are mercury-free. Some people like borage, or evening primrose. For me, personally, I like to take Sambucol elderberry extract to help with colds, bacterial infection, etc., but I'm not sure if all of our kids can take it-I don't know if there are any issues with the salicylates or phenols, etc. --------------------------------- Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
yes, I think I should eliminate Sprite completely.. I just picked up a new Cola from Whole Foods yesterday.. it said gluten free, caffeine free, no preservatives, no corn syrup. I'll try that instead.. Its a good suggestion to mix the rice milk with something... maybe darifee. He might accept that.. Can I mix in some coconut milk.. does that agree with our kids? About the Rice Dream ice cream, is that gluten free? A lot of the yummy GFCF stuff contains soy or corn, which we are avoiding. However I am rethinking about that.. do we really need to avoid? If I give a capsule of a broad spectrum enzyme with a soy/corn food, would that be okay? Thanks again, D. > > godshelp76-Look at the ingredients in Sprite. I would definitely eliminate that. Guest guest
I think you should look at soy pretty carefully before you add that back in. It seems like pretty nasty stuff to me. And it is not good for thyroid function, which many of our kids have problems with to start. I think there is some discussion of this at Mercola's website.
