Guest guest
I am wondering if while doing TD-DMSA and/or TD-DMPS, one's taste can change. Would it be possible for foods to take on a metal taste? My 8 year old is non verbal and is refusing to eat any of his regular foods. There are only a two or three things he will eat now. I've explored every other idea... not a texture thing, not temperature, not a loss of appetite, not craving carbs, we tried enzymes, we tried more pro-biotics, he's still drinking all his vitamins and minerals (he takes 22 daily). I'm really just wondering if his taste is taking on a metal taste. Any help is appreciated! Kim
Guest guest
Are you using appropriate dose and dosing schedule? I presume he has NO mercury amalgam dental fillings. Guest guest
This is a real longshot, but it happened to me. I put Frontline Flea treatment on a dog I was taking care of, and got a drop of the stuff on me. For two weeks afterwards, every time I took a bite of food, it tasted absolutely horrible and metallic. As an example, I bought a big chocolate chip cookie from the grocery store and was eating it driving home, and had to pull over and spit the cookie out on the side of the road. That's how nasty stuff tasted! Has your son, by any long chance, petted or handled any animals, cat or dogs, which may have been treated by a topical flea treatment? I know lots of people who use Frontline and get it on them and don't get that nasty taste thing, so maybe it's only some people who are sensitive to it. Guest guest
Yes, the dosage is correct. We use his DAN! dr. for the chelation. No mercury amalgam dental fillings either. Guest guest
No offense, but some DAN! doctors prescribe some pretty scary dosing amounts and schedules. What exactly did the DAN! doctor prescribe ? Neil _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of momof1_and_2 Sent: Tuesday, September 19, 2006 6:57 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Food Tasting Bad? Guest guest
DAN! docs often prescribe unsafely high, infrequent doses. If it's more than 1/8-1/2 mg/lb, consider reducing the dose. If it's less frequent than every 3 hours during the day and 4 hours at night, consider dosing more frequently. Please read the FAQs for the reasoning behind Andy's protocol. If the DMSA has glutathione in with it, that may be the problem. Some can't tolerate it. S S
Yes, the dosage is correct. What are those 2-3 things? It can mean yeast, even if he is not craving carbs. >>he's still drinking all his vitamins and minerals (he > takes 22 daily). He might not need as high of doses of these vitamins/minerals, which is killing his appetite. Try giving half of what you are currently giving him, or remove it entirely for a few days, see if that helps increase his appetite. Is he only having eating issues on chelation days, or every day? Guest guest
Possible indeed. dmsa made everything smell like mold to me for the first few days I took it. My son sometimes refuses to eat as well, usually it is because he has yeast in his mouth. Other times his appetite is just low when he is chelating. But I think it does and can affect taste. It sure does affect smell. Both my kids eat less on a round. My 11 year old is usually nauseus and only drinks too. It may be making him nauseaus. > > I am wondering if while doing TD-DMSA and/or TD-DMPS, one's taste can > change. Would it be possible for foods to take on a metal taste? Guest guest
some flea treatments contain arsenic and other nasties. Many animals have seizures in reaction to these if that give an idea of what's in them. > >
This is a real longshot, but it happened to me. Guest guest
Zinc greatly affects taste and smell. I would try to increase his zinc supplementation.
