Guest guest
America has lost one of their most important leaders, and Hero Advocates. He fought hard for those with Autism. I will send the information as I get it about Bernie Rimland. The reason for his death, and his story. I will also send information about the day he is laid to rest. I will have my Flag hanging high tomorrow, and it will remain there for a long period of time, to honor Mr. Bernie Rimland our ASA & ARI founder. As and Jen, I too am saddened by the loss of this Great Man, and loving friend to all families of people with Autism. Please say a prayer for his loved ones. Guest guest
What a great loss to all of us. Bernard Rimland was a wonderful man and an amazing advocate for all of our kids in every way. -- [ASILIST-L] Bernie Rimland ASILIST-L@... v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } An official statement will be coming out from ASA, but I wanted to let you know that Bernie Rimland passed away today. Guest guest
I am saddened to hear of the passing of the founder of the medical movement in autism. As an attendee of the first DAN conference in Dallas in 1995 where I first met Dr. Rimland I always found him warm, caring, and a visionary force who knew the answers were out there if only the right minds could be brought together. He was also a man of good humor, a leader and a magnet who drew others towards him. I believe the greatest thing all of us could do would be to carry on his life-long ambition to discover the medical basis for autistic disorders and use this knowledge to prevent and treat this illness. Bernie Rimland was a truly remarkable human being and I will always feel glad and fortunate I had a chance to know him. Guest guest
I know we cannot all live forever, but I wish he could have been an exception. I've always had this feeling that Dr. Rimland was my son's pseudo-grandfather; even though we only briefly met at the first NAA conference (and I mean seconds). Or maybe just the grandfather my son deserves (ie; wishful thinking!). I bought a copy of his " Infantile Autism " book at the NAA auction and asked him to sign it. That signature means much more today. I am really sad. It is so hard to lose the person who I feel started the movement to save my son... I hope all of you with a few extra dollars will make a donation to the Autism Research Institute. I'd like mine to come with a grandmother too, please. I'm sad about Dr. Rimland too. If it weren't for him, everyone would still think autism is our fault, maybe even us. Guest guest
My guess is they are probably being flooded with financial help right now. My guess is also they are still in mourning for Dr. Rimland. It might be a good idea to give it a while before you try again. For sure keep trying.
