My 5 year old ASD son gave me an unprompted " I love you, Mommy " at the dinner table on Friday!!! He wasn't snuggling in my arms or gazing lovingly in to my eyes (like I had dreamed), but it was clear and real and totally meant for me to hear!!! The look on his face after he said it was classic Ian: he knew what my reaction would be and he was trying to contain his own excitement. I tried not to lose it so I wouldn't scare him from ever saying it again! So far, he hasn't uttered it again. That is OK... I know it is in there now! Pam, WOW... that is very exciting!! You are right, it is in there and it was heart felt! Congrads!!!!! Jule
Guest guest
Wonderful, Pam, that's my rule also, if I saw it once, I knew it was there and would eventually show up permanently.....and every single thing we ever saw even once, has come to stay. Congratulations! [ ] OT: I GOT IT!!! He said 'I love you' Very, very happy weekend here. My 5 year old ASD son gave me an unprompted " I love you, Mommy " at the dinner table on Friday!!! I am so, so, so glad I didn't allow my ABA therapists to 'program' this phrase in to him (it was actually one of their scheduled programs!); this way makes it so beautiful. I don't mean to brag. Guest guest
Hey Pam, didn't you post awhile ago about your son saying " I love you " to his little toy sign? And somebody suggested that that was probably meant for you, in a sideways sort of way? And you replied " I hope so! " We told you so!!!! :-) Rene
Guest guest
That's wondreful! I still remember my first " I love you " from my son... every detail. He was 4 at the time. -Jenna [ ] OT: I GOT IT!!! He said 'I love you' Very, very happy weekend here. My 5 year old ASD son gave me an unprompted " I love you, Mommy " at the dinner table on Friday!!! Guest guest
Yes! That was me. These certainly are exciting times at our home. It is at times hard to keep the faith that my son will make it all the way back to what he was before the regression. Despite this awesome moment, he still has a way to go. Thanks to everyone who cheered us on. Pam > > Hey Pam, didn't you post awhile ago about your son saying " I love you " > to his little toy sign? Guest guest
How sweet it must have been to hear those words. Even sweeter knowing that they it sprang from his relationship with you and not a third party. I'm still waiting for more spontaneous language. Stories like this give me such hope. > > Very, very happy weekend here. > > My 5 year old ASD son gave me an unprompted " I love you, Mommy " at > the dinner table on Friday!!! Guest guest
I am so happy for you!! How wonderful that it was his own words and not scripted words for him to say. And how funny is that - him waiting for your reaction!! Big, big congratulations!!! And thanks for sharing Wyndie > [ ] OT: I GOT IT!!!
