This sounds terrible. I don't have a real answer for you but I had

my son on Biosil (Jarrow) a while back because his hair/nails were

so brittle and not growing. It did help. I remember it said

something on the bottle about supporting bone, joint health, etc.

My son did knock his front tooth in a fall and it was pretty loose.

I started giving him that and it tightened up pretty quickly and

never turned gray or fell out. Just a thought.

I do hope you get some better feedback about the flouride issues.

It would seem that there would be a better alternative.

With cavities, you have to consider Streptococcus Mutans. I would work on

giving probiotics to displace bad bacteria in gut and supplement with

minerals paying particular attention to Molybdenum which will help with

mineralization of enamel.

Dear Padmaja

How traumatic this must be for you and your daughter. Given your

situation, I would consider using xylitol as a sweetener for now,

rather than honey. I like to use honey, but xylitol will not cause

cavities and has actually been shown to help prevent them.

The Weston A. Price Foundation is a great organization that might

give you some longer-term strategies for promoting dental health.

They have a huge archive of articles on health and nutrition, many of

which deal with dental issues/flouridation, etc. They believe that

many of our current dental issues are because of a lack of vitamins

and trace minerals in our diet. You can go to www.westonaprice.org

and type " tooth decay " into their search utility to read many

relevant articles. Here is a link to a great article that may be

especially relevant:

The fluoride generally used in dentistry is toxic waste from the nuclear

industry. Is this a child you are chelating or who is high in lead? How are

her calcium levels? Are you using a milk substitute? Nut mylk, soy mylk, rice

mylk, etc?

Dear Rene:

I have not thought of Xylitol, that is a great idea, I will try that

to mix all all supplements.

I am follwing weston A. Price, I have the Nourishing traditions

book, I am trying to soak the grains and so.

One question, if on GFCF diet, can I give her raw butter or not.

Thanks

Honey is very hard on the teeth (since it's just heavy liquid sugar that can

coat her teeth and get inbetween them even worse than regular sugar), but I

doubt that it could be causing that much decay. I agree, the calcium could be an

issue. Is she getting her teeth brushed pretty well? Enough protein? Fluoride

can be toxic, but in this case you might need to try it - sounds like an awful

experience - I hope you find what's causing the problem.

Maybe he has gut issues and not absorbing nutrients that he needs.

Perhaps try some of the transdermal products for nutrition like

transdermal minerals I've seen some place. Could you get his

nutrional status tested some place? If he did have nutrional

problems, you could get IV of nutrients from some alternative doctors

if gut is not absorbing. That may be 100.00 an IV though. At least

that is what it costs here, but you maybe jump start with that and

then look for other less costly ways to deal with nutrional needs

bypassing the gut, some nutrients come sublinqual like zinc.

Oops...I did not know child was so young. IV would be a little much

for such young child. Anyway, transdermal or sublingual or just

liquid multivitamin may be absorbed more easily.

Honey can be hard on teeth if left on for a while because it is sticky.

My son, who was cavity-free until his teenage years, suddenly got 6 cavities

from drinking pop over a period of time without brushing. (He was working in a

store and would take sips periodically.)

Hello everyone:

I am desperate and need help. My 3 year old daughter has cavities on

all her teeth, we went to dentist yesterday all her teeth were

filled with composite resin, and she also had root canal on her

front tooth.

Dentist said that all her enamel is gone, and is decalcifying, and

more prone to get more cavities.

She recommends flouride application to prevent more cavities.

What should I do: why is she getting so many cavities, she is GFCF,

sugar free, exxcept for some honey, which I use to mix all her

supplements, twice a day, Is there any test I can run to see if

there is some bad bacteria, or something in her mouth breaking down

her teeth. cavities are progressing fast, by the time I received

denstist appointment, I see her front tooth melting, within two

weeks, the nerve is invaded needing root canal. Something is going

on, and I have no clue what it can be causing this rapid melt down

Should I consider flouride gel application.

After seeing what she went through yesterday, I don't want her to

get her anymore cavities.

Padmaja,

If your daughter absolutely needs to be completely casein free, then

of course butter is a no-no. However, butter is relatively low casein

compared to other dairy foods, being mostly fat. If you want to try

raw butter (and I know that I sure would, if I could access any), you

might want to test the waters first with ghee, which will be *really,

really close to casein free, and slowly go from there. Or maybe high

vitamin butter oil...

You may be familiar with the Body Ecology Diet, which uses some

Nourishing Tradition-style strategies like culturing foods and soaking

grains, adapted for people with severe intestinal issues, including

autism. BED is gluten free. Interestingly, I think that cultured

butter is often introduced after the person has been on BED for a

while and is showing improvement with things like coconut kefir, etc.

take care
