1st IEP Meeting Update

Hi Everyone,

So we had our 1st meeting the other day. What a hard hiney principal she is!!!

Whoo!!! Her

body language and whole demeanor during the whole 2 hour long meeting was just

rude;

rolling her eyes, huffing and puffing, closing her book to rush the meeting,

etc. No one

during the meeting asked us what our thoughts/ideas were at all so when we

interjected

something, she cut us off!!! All in all though, they seemed pretty up to speed

on

Asperger's and how it is affecting our son in school. They will not give him an

aide on the

bus, but will allow him to ride the mini bus if need be, I refuse to do that

though. We really

want him to have an aide in the classroom at all times to keep his focus

directed on task,

but they want to try the cheap way and pull him out of class for 15-60 minutes

one or two

times a day. No. I don't think so. My husband and I are going to review their

proposal and

then not sign until we get an individual aide for him. They want to try a " lunch

bunch " and

video social stories (made by the guidance counselor and staff), and they've

given him odd

jobs such as helping the gym teacher set up for class and holding up the bus #

signs to

call the students for bus at the end of the day. He's being warned of firedrills

ahead of

time but now imagines the school burning down and is starting to freak. We

requested

that he have someone to go to when the teacher notices a meltdown coming on,

like the

guidance counselor, that he goes to every time, a routine, just to talk or get

his mind off

of it. He will have lots of breaks throughout the day to help him be successful.

I am sure

there are things I am forgetting but that is basically how it went. Our

psychologist was

there w/us which gained us more respect than if she hadn't been there. It was

quite

intimidating. There were 10 of us at this big huge table in a tiny room. I've

noticed w/this

principal that she respects my husband more than me. She totally kisses his butt

and

almost belittles me, just an observation. THAT will hafto change. Ok, just

wanted to let

you know!
