Guest guest
i don't know enough about the subject to answer your question, but if i would you, i would get an appointment with a neurologist at childrens and get him an eeg. we had andrew go through the mri/eeg thing when he was about 4, just to rule out possible brain damage/seizures. bernadette On 2/22/06, Leighanne Ratliff <a_cute_tx_cowgirl@...> wrote: > > Ok guys, I know it seems like I brought a lot of drama and questions > with me, but I need to know. Guest guest
My son has had seizures since he was a baby and it sounds to me like those are seizures, they are not in pain during them and usually won't even remember them, it does make them very tired and my son will sleep very deeply for 2 or 3 hours afterward. ( ) Could be having Seizures??? Ok guys, I know it seems like I brought a lot of drama and questions with me, but I need to know. My DS is 3 and for about a week now, I've been noticing some strange behaviour. He'll lay on the ground on his stomach and put his forehead down on the ground so that it is touching and then he'll get stiff and his legs will go straight out behind him and his toes will point straight out . I've even noticed he'll try to make fists or he'll actually make fists while this is going on. He only stays this way for about a minute or maybe not quite that long. When he is like this he doesn't say anything and I usually have to say his name 2-3 times before he'll respond. Today we were at my sister's house and he was standing next to the chair I was sitting in and all of a sudden he gets down on the floor in the position I mentioned above and then once he's done he just kind of layed there for a minute and then he got up and went on with something else. This is really scaring me and I was just going to see if there were any other parents that had children who had seizures that could help me out. We have his well check up on the 27th so I'm defenitly going to bring this up to his Ped and see what she thinks. I'm just so scared for him because like any mother, I don't want to see him in any pain and I know that with seizures he would be. Please give me your honest opinions. Guest guest
Leighanne, I think you should call your pediatrician tomorrow (Thursday). My son had seizures when he was younger. There are, as you probably know, many types of seizures. My son had " absence seizures " , which aren't terribly serious as seizures go. A child just looks like he's staring off into space when he's having them, and he's unresponsive to stimuli during the seizure. They often outgrow absence seizures during adolescence. My son was on antiseizure meds until about 3 years ago. You sound really worried. I think you should call your son's pediatrician and describe what he's doing. Don't wait until his appointment. Pediatricians are used to helping concerned parents. That's their job. Guest guest
Well Bernadette it's a possibility do you have a family hx of any sx. disorders? Until you see your sons dr. (now I'm not tryig to scare you) you might want to check on him often when he's sleeping. If there is a possibility it may be seizures, things can happen when sleeping. Actually it might be a good idea to call his dr. in the morning. Let them know whats happening...they may want to see him sooner. It's just my thought. Guest guest
Leighanne, When my daughter, Sara, was still crawling she used to lay on her stomach, arch her back and stick her legs straight out. Her arms were pointing at a ninety degree angle to her body. She would stay like that for a short amount of time. We called it her " flying baby routine. " We never thought anything about it at the time; she always had a big smile on her face as she was doing it. A couple of years ago I happened to mention it to a doctor, who said it was probably infantile seizures. That was scary... I agree with the others that you should contact your doctor. At least make her aware of the situation. She can decide whether you should bring in sooner. By the way, Sara stopped doing her routine after a couple of months. She's now 13 and hasn't had anything even vaguely resembling a seizue since then. You're right to be concerned, but don't assume the worst... As a pediatric nurse it sounds strange but not like a seizure to me, but of course you have to be there and witness it, if he is deliberatly getting on the floor and doing this, it seems unlikely its a seizure, people that have a seizure esp at that young age do not get into a certain position deliberatly prior to the seizure if that makes any sense to you, they usu are not aware they are going to have a seizure, now adults with a history of seizures will sometimes tell you that they know they are going to have a seizure right before it maybe he is doing this b/c it feels good to him some kind of sensory thing. I would consult with the pediatrician he could better tell if this is something you should worry about. Now if he is falling to the fall its a different story but if he is getting down like he is going into a certain position that just does not sound like a seizure to me. One other thing I forgot to mention does he lose control of his bowels or bladder during these episodes a lot of children with seizures do lose control.
