Guest guest
Hi to All! My Aspie is 15 now and I can say that Idiosyncrasies change along the time. Insects was first, I could not clean any spider web. I still must save any insect I find anywhere in or outside the house. Black widows were her adoration and she still finds then adorable. She read all about insects, I could never know as much as she knew at 6. Then, it evolved to pokemon, any toy, book drawing related to pokemon, (She remains attached to the cloth she uses as pillow case since I can remember. I still remember when she was dragging her pillow with that cloth all around the airport). After many difficult moments ( years actually) she has something more appealing: Second world war and the Laws in Germany. I still miss to have her close but I got used to her surface coldness. Sometimes is like walking on egg shells to avoid saying something she might misinterpret. Good luck to all and specially LOVE AND PATIENCE!!! Guest guest
Isn't that interesting when they do their collections? I think, it shows that they are genius or gifted way up there, when it comes to non-social type of work or activity. To me, it makes me think they'll always shine, when they are standing alone. Weird thinking I know, but it does fit? Think about it : ) Did u know that B.F. Skinner, the father of psychology, and a number of presidents, were all AS? mmhmmmm... hows THAT, for a happy thought for today? : )
Guest guest
My Son has an attachment to those squishy pillows, his room is full of them and at night he likes to have them all around him in bed, LOL!
Guest guest
My 14 yo hates all bugs... except lady bugs... he is obsessed with Japan... anything from japan, he must download, play or watch... Mostly Anime, but also music and video games and certain movies... he has planned trips to japan on the internet before, and begs me to save money and take him there someday soon. Also, starwars... all the movies, all the games, u name it... Food can be a problem, he will not eat any red meat, only eats corn, the other night I made him broccoli and cauliflower, and he just nibbled the tops of them, picked them up with his fingers, and nibbled like if he accidentally ate any of the stem, he might die. He will eat peas only if they are mixed into macaroni and cheese... and only Kraft macaroni and cheese. He has to have cinamin toothpaste, nothing else will do. He refuses to get a different toothbrush, I may have to switch it while he is sleeping for one that looks just like it. And he will only use head and shoulders shampoo when he showers which is only when I force him with verbal threats...Shoes have to be black. He has a thing... if he thinks something is a special occasion, like a birthday party for a family member, even though everyone else wears jeans, he has to have his suit cleaned and his tie and his dress shoes and dress socks... special socks that feel " SO Soft " , of course I could go on and on, like I am sure everyone else could! LOL My son used to love pokemon then yugioh, but now he doesn't want anything to do with it... he had to have all those stupid cards every holiday... and then one day, he gave them all away to my nephew without asking me... my nephew that loses, destroys and basically disrespects everything... He also got an xbox and gave away his dreamcast, and all the games, I spend hundreds on, without asking me to my niece, who is also destructive... giving them anything is like flushing money down the toilet... when he was two, it was Barney, we had to have Barney sheets blankets, pillows, dolls, all the movies... I had to sing him the songs at his will... then it was land before time, oh, and he had an obsession with King's IT when he was 3, my mother let him watch it and he had to watch it every night when he went to bed! It was rediculous... then Arnold Schwartzenegger.. all his movies... The things they latch on to... it's so weird and unpredictable... Guest guest
Hello to all, I have enjoyed reading about everybodys experiences with their children. My son will be turning eight next week and he is obsessed with the presidents. He has memorized all of their names date of birth and the years when they were presidents and if they have already passed away he will memorize that as well. this obsession actually amazed me and my husband. He is also going through this thing that everytime we watch TV he has to know what year the movie was made and how long it is. And of course he tends to want to watch the same movies over and over again. Guest guest
My 14-yo aspie is obsessed with manga porn! ARGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!! Other than that, he hides his clean socks (between teh matresses, behind the bookcase, in his pillow...) He always gives bear hugs (cute when he was 2...painful now!!) Spy things, & CSI type activities are his faves He's also created an alter-ego " Boy Shadow " who then became " Teen Shadow " whom he writes about constantly " Teen Shadow's Log Book " has become a constant companion. Clothing wise, we got lucky...he likes almost anything...as long as it's not a " Jersey Shirt " whatever that means...fabric & style haven't been consistant. He LOVES the new Body Armor clothing fad...the lycra spandex shirts & pants...we get them a couple of sizes too small & he wears them under everything. When he first got them (trying to satisfy his bear hug cravings) he wore them to school & promptly upon arriving, stripped off the jeans & shirt he wore over them (the body armor shirt & pants were white & he was going comando that day) His spec ed teach was ROFL trying to explain what had happened, and the aide was helping him back into the other clothes....tooooo funny! He calls them his Hugz Clothes, and has several of each piece, long sleeve, short sleeve, sleevelss, long pants & shorts. Hugs & Peace, Sheri Briley http://my2.tupperware.com/johnbriley --------------------------------- Sneak preview the all-new .com. It's not radically different. Just radically better. Guest guest
welcome to the world of autism! I've been here a short time on the board and really have learned a lot, met wonderful people! ( ) Re: Calling all parents -- lets compare idiosyncrasies... My son is and only diagnosed last week, but reading all of these is helping me accept that he is definitely AS, because he is so much like all of your kids! He's had several obsessions, but probably the one that has carried through the most is home construction, and plumbing and heating systems in particular. Beginning around age 4, if we went on vacation and stayed with friends or relatives, he would HAVE to see the furnace before he would stay there! In first grade, he had quite the fight with the school librarian, because she was not going to let him check out the Time/Life Home Improvement Series book on Plumbing. She didn't think it was age appropriate. He finally won, and that week he and I studied together about how cisterns work!
Guest guest
I have a 12 yr old Aspie. One obsession that has been consistent is the color red. Everything has to be red. Matchbox cars are another, I think we have over 250 matchbox cars and growing and don't even get him started about video games you will be there for hours whether you like it or not.
