Guest guest
I sit here at my computer trying to put into words what is going on in my little guy and feel completely overwhelmed. I'm sure most of you know the exact feeling. My 2.4 yr old ASD son seems to have a yeast or possibly bacteria problem. We have been GFCF for 4 months and on enzymes for about 2 months. He takes all 3 enzymes at each meal and substantial snacks. A couple of weeks ago I began to give him enzymes between meals without food to help with gut healing (or so I thought). This began a chain of events that bring us to this point. After a few days of this treatment, we began to have the classic symptoms of die off. Spinning, vocal stims, laughing, and the tell all yellow, foamy stools. The die off seemed unbearable and we backed off the enzymes between meals and added back in calc/magnesium and epsom salts (we had stopped them to do a test our DAN Dr wanted) We also started on a probiotic and are slowly upping him to 1 capsule a day. The stims are better and stools are somewhat better. But something is still not quite right. He is lethargic, unfocused, pail, LARGE circles under his eys, not attempting vocalization and seems to have sensory issues. He never has really had many sensory issues (or at least not that we could tell). He now wants to squeeze himself into small spaces and keeps pulling his own hair (maybe a headache??) We have also just got back his stool analysis (we haven't discussed with our DAN Dr. yet). It indicates that he does not have the beneficial bacteria bifidobacterium at all in his gut. It says NO GROWTH on the report. It also indicates that he has Klebsiella as a possible pathogen. I'm assuming that's bad bacteria. So, I am so confused on the difference between bacteria and yeast. I know I have seen Dana post that if she gives GSE for too long then she has a bacteria problem. Does bacteria have symptoms similar to yeast? How do I treat the bacteria? Since he doesn't have the good bacteria, is it possible that he gets yeast overgrowth, I treat that and get that in check but the bad bacteria is always still there and getting worse? Hence the feeling that something is not quite right. I know the earliest we will be able to talk to his DAN Dr. is Tuesday, but I would like to start something to help give him some relief prior to them. From reading 's book, I was thinking I should up the proteases between meals..I think this is our PEP. As well as continue the probiotic..possibly upping that as well. Then giving stuff to help with the die off, epsom salts, magnesium etc. I could also give Vitamin C. Any suggestions or insights into bacteria is greatly appreciated! Thanks ..mom to Sam 2.4 ASD and Madelyn 14months
