Guest guest
Sheryl, I actually had a post on this as well aniracetam (sp?) which is supposed to be even stronger than piracetam. Both of these fall into the so-called " smart drugs " which are supposed to enhance cognitive abilities. However, both of these have such short half lives that you have to dose every 3 or 4 hours. Then there's the question of whether they even are able to cross the blood-brain barrier, and even do what they are purported to do. What I find fascinating is that ampakines, the drugs being tested on the fragile X and autistic populations to also increase cognitive abilities (i.e., i.q) are derived from these very same substances--piracetam and aniracetam. I'm guessing that part of the new improved ampakines is a better delivery system that does reach the brain for longer periods. I also asked Dr. Usman about piracetam and she said they have not seen any improvements with this. You might want to try them anyway on yourself-- they're available on the internet. Also check on memantine and Dr. Tom Owley's research on this.

Guest guest
I got some piracetam, thought it might be beneficial after researching it. Much of what is written about it seems it might address deficites in my son. From one site, that sums up what i read mostly: Enhances Brain Metabolism (By increasing Glucose Utilization, Blood & Oxygen Flow) [boosts mental energy & cerebral circulation]. -Increases Cerebral Phospholipids & Cellular Membrane Fluidity (By interacting with the polar head moieties of the phospholipid bilayer) [supports healthy neuron communication & structure]. -Supports Cognitive Receptors (By amplifying the density of the Muscarinic Cholinergic [Frontal Cortex, Striatum, & Hippocampus], NMDA (N-Methyl-D-Aspartate) [Hippocampus], & AMPA (Alpha-amino-3- hydroxy-5-Methyl-4-isoxazole-Propionic Acid) [Cerebral Cortex] Receptors) [strengthens neurotransmitter receptors involved in memory and neuroprotection]. -Stimulates the Corpus Callosum, an area of the brain that controls communication between the left and right hemispheres (Increases communication between both hemispheres) [involved in speech and creative thinking]. - Stimulates the Locus Coeruleus, (specialized neurons) [involved in information processing, attention, cortical/behavioral arousal, learning and memory] -Inhibits Platelet Aggregation (By increasing Red-White blood cells & Platelet deformability, inhibiting thromboxane A2 synthetase or antagonism of thromboxane A2, reducing von Willebrand's factor & fibrinogen levels) [supports Healthy Blood Flow]. -Decreases EEG complexity (Increases cooperatively of brain functional processing) [Positively effects Neuro-Electrical Functioning]. -Has a significant antioxidant effect. I tried it myself and i rather liked how it made me feel.Thinking was defiently clearer when working on written projects(i typically have brain fog/amalgam poisoning). Not much notice when just watching tv or the like except I tend to think deep thoughts instead of getting lost in the show. It did give me a headache the first time, and most recommend it be taken with choline. I havent tried it with my son yet tho, mainly because I am doing other things, Chelation and MB12 Nasal so I want to use those for a while longer before trying it. There is an even more potent derivative, Pramiracetam,(also fat soluble) that is longer lasting that either piracetam or aniracetam , but i havent tried that yet. Some interesting info on it: http://www.biopsychiatry.com/pramiracetam.htm Cheryl

Guest guest
I dont think i felt much with the very first dosage, it was definetly a more I took the more intense the results were. And it did wear off in about 3 hours, with a slight feeling i wanted more. What is your dosage? From the message board I read where lots of people took it seems it takes about 3 to 4 grams a day to be effective. I took 1 gram each dosage. Hows it going Mandi ? The best way to see the difference, at least to me, was working on something written, create language, or engage in a lively debate. Guest guest
HI, I HAVE BEEN USING PIRACETAM FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS AND I DO THINK IT IS HELPING MY SON WITH CONCENTRATION AND CALMNESS.....WHAT CAN IT HURT TO TRY IT? CORINNE VELA [ ] Piracetam and Hydergine experiences? I was wondering if any of you have had any experiences using either Piracetam and/or Hydergine (either alone or in combination) for your child? I have been reading about them and it seems they may be able to help our kids with attention issues and focus. Some of the literature even states that they improved blood flow to the brain and may help build neurons. I'd be interested in any feedback you have and would be willing to share. Thanks, Sheryl =======================================================

Guest guest
Corinne: How often do you dose it and how much? Curious, I would like to try this with my 3.5 child. His big issues are language, concentration/calmness, and sometimes anxiety. Re: [ ] Piracetam and Hydergine experiences?
