Guest guest
Hi Anita, I haven't read the book. I think you know I am an environmental studies major ( " environmental resource management " with a concentration in land use planning and policy). I have said for years that I think the dramatic rise in autism is related to the dramatic rise in chemicals in our environment. We have introduced a lot of synthetic chemicals into our environment in recent decades and I think we really do not know the impact. FWIW: I have had dreams since I was a child that when I was an adult, there would be (the start of?) " a dark age " . And I have had dreams for years that " the angry ocean is coming " (ie it will somehow " attack " us). But I cannot say that I fear the changes I expect this world to endure. I see them as somehow part of a larger cycle, on a longer scale than humans can fully " see " , and not simply the negative consequences of our own actions (but those are certainly a factor in how this will play out). A friend of mine has been very fretful about the state of the world in recent months. About a week or so ago, I told this friend that " I was thinking today that a child grows in the dark of a woman's womb and dark times should be a time when we try to plant good seeds out of which a new future can grow. " I am actually very hopeful. Groups like this one hold a lot of promise to be " a candle in the dark " (instead of cursing the darkness). Just as economic depressions weed out weak companies and make the economy healthier, I think dark ages have a function and are not merely " punishment " for our errors. There is a saying about economic depressions: " the shallow end of the pond empties first " . It means that people will continue to eat and do the things which are truly essential but they stop buying frivolous things like pet rocks. The amount of information available to us now and the amazing capacity to share information and even wisdom with so many people, so quickly, via internet is so new and the ramifications are so great, I think we have barely scratched the surface. Well, I would say more but I need to go. Later, -- Michele in Limbo (formerly in California) talithamichele@... Visit Michele's World! http://www.califmichele.com " Peace cannot be kept by force. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for responding. I seem to veer pretty wildly between hopeful and doomful (I know it's not a word, but it's a pretty accurate description). I'm really hoping that people who've had experience with removing these toxic chemicals can share their experiences. It's not that I don't trust Dr. Edelson, but.... Guest guest
Hi Nell, I'm trying to figure out the best ways to get out what's already stored inside of the kids. Is sweating and the procedures that go with it the only/best way? Maybe I should just move to Costa Rica with the kids and sweat it out there. Maybe some people from the list would like to join us. We could sell organic snacks and " I just sweated out all my hexanes " t-shirts. I'm only half kidding. Guest guest
>>I'm trying to figure out the best ways to get out what's already stored inside of the kids. Is sweating and the procedures that go with it the only/best way? --- I read a book once called " Sastun " (and I don't remember the subtitle). It was about a woman's studies of traditional Mayan herbal medicine with a very old Mayan healer. He had scathing contempt for modern medicine and how it simply attacked the body. He felt strongly you had to support the body while simultaneously attacking the health problem. That makes more sense to me than the model used by American medicine. I have done a lot to try to rebuild my body in the aftermath of a major health crisis. I think organic foods, clean water, appropriate supplements and other means to provide healthy inputs are as important as means to get things out. You have to replace the bad stuff you draw out with good stuff. Life abhors a vacuum. I think if you are putting enough good stuff in to begin with, it helps push some of the bad stuff out. If you are also doing things to actively draw out the bad stuff, the combination can be very powerful. Of course, what most benefits each individual is partly dependent of specifics of their situation, so it is hard to make blanket pronouncements about what to do. But, here are a few things which have helped me in a general way: Folks on this list suggested I switch to sea salt. I did that some months ago and it has made a huge difference for me and my sons. I still take glyconutrients. Of course, I use a water filter on my kitchen faucet, avoid metal pots and pans, etc. I am working more on introducing " good fats " to our diet. Folks on this list have suggested that and it does seem to be a BIG deal. My science geek son has told me that fats absorb toxins so using bad fats would be really bad for a person and using good fats should help the person purge bad things by absorbing them into the digestive tract. When I was chelating with cilantro, I often CRAVED butter and other fats in a way which was unusual for me. It was obvious to me at the time that it helped me purge bad things. I am also trying to include more organic foods in our diets. And I have eliminated a lot of toxic cleaners and such from our lives. -- Michele in Limbo (formerly in California) talithamichele@... Guest guest
Epsom salt baths are good to remove some things. But sweating is excellent as well! > > > I'm trying to figure out the best ways to get out what's already > > stored inside of the kids. Guest guest
Thank you for this . The stuff about fats is very interesting and makes perfect sense. I love that butter!! Can you explain why the switch to sea salt would have been helpful? Anita > > >>I'm trying to figure out the best ways to get out what's already > stored inside of the kids. Can you explain why the switch to sea salt would have been helpful? --- Sea salt might not have as strong an impact on others. I and my children are genetically predisposed to purging salt at high rates, so it has had a really dramatic impact on us. Sea salt has a different mineral balance than table salt. Table salt is similar to prescription drugs in that it is mostly a single chemical (the way drugs typically have a single " active ingreadient " ), with a few other things thrown in for various reasons. In contrast, I think natural sea salt is only around 3/4's sodium chloride and the rest is a variety of other minerals. I also have reason to believe that I may be allergic to iodine and table salt often has iodine added, so, for me personally, that is an additional reason to avoid the stuff. However, others who do not have my genetic disorder have spoken highly of sea salt and the benefits of the natural balance of minerals found in it. Although it may not be *as* dramatic for other people, I still recommend it. -- Michele in Limbo (formerly in California) talithamichele@...
