Guest guest
Hi Lbender Does he tolerate any kind of nuts? You can make homemade " milk " from almost any kind of nut, or brown rice. I'm sure I can dig up some recipes for you, if you want to email me offlist. There are a lot of fruit juices out there other than orange and grape, so if he tolerates other fruits I would look for good-quality unsweetened juices to dilute with water (to keep the sugar down). Or, better yet, if you have a juicer you can make your own with fresh fruits and/or vegetables. They would be unpasteurized, so the enzymes would be intact. I hope at least one of these ideas works for you. best wishes René ps. what's Juicey Juice? Does it have any additives in it? > > My son gets very hyper anytime we give him Juicey Juice. Guest guest
Pacific brand makes a vanilla almond " mylk " which we use on our cereal and in baked goods. It's less expensive at Trader Joe's than at Whole Foods. They also sell hazelnut mylk but it's mnore expensive. You can make a milk substitute using zucchini. With a Champion juicer you can make good fresh veg juice (carrots, cucumber, celery, beet, etc). We make smoothies nearly every day. We freeze peeled, broken up bananas, then add other frozen fruit (berries, peaches, mango, etc) and in our case OJ but you could potentially substitute something else. No added sugar, water, or anything else. We use our Vitamix or Champion for these. If he tolerates it you can add a little cocoa or carob to milk substitutes. If grape and orange juice ar an issue for him it's likely he has a phenol issue. Have you tried " No Fenol " from Houston Enzymes? Have you tried apple cider? Guest guest
There are nut milks if he is not allergic to nuts. Almond milk is one I can think of. Does Pacific rice milk contain barley as well? How about vegetable juices, while not sweet they can be if you use a juicer and make fruit veggie combinations. > > My son gets very hyper anytime we give him Juicey Juice. Even if we > dilute it. Guest guest
I haven't tried the almond milk yet. I think the last time I looked at it in the stores I saw that it contained one of the no-no ingredients . I've tried carrot juice with stevia. That was a big disaster. He just about had a melt down after tasting it. I'm going to look into the nut milks again. Hopefully I will stumble across one that he can tolerate. Pear juice was mentioned before. Hadnt thought of that before. He would probably love it. Thanks Lori --- Jan <queenvavee@...> wrote: > There are nut milks if he is not allergic to nuts. > Almond milk is > one I can think of. Guest guest
" Juicy Juice " is 100% juice sold at the regular store in the juice isle. It has no colors, flavors, preservatives, or added sugar. It comes in juice boxes or larger bottles. It also comes in cans but we avoid those. Comes in many different flavors too. My kids love the Berry or Cherry .. > > > > My son gets very hyper anytime we give him Juicey Juice. Even if > we > > dilute it. Guest guest
Hi Lori, it is really easy to make almond milk. 1/2 cup organic almonds soaked over night 2 organic dates, pitted, also soaked overnight in the same jar 2 cups of pure water of choice One blender Cheese cloth, ( or a Jay cloth ) Blend all ingredients on a high powered setting till smooth. Strain through cloth. Enjoy! Will last approximately 7 days in the fridge. I peel off the almond skins before blending, but you don't have to. The taste doesn't change, just the colour of the milk. You can adapt the recipe by adding more almonds, and using Agave nectar or Stevia as a sweetener to keep the GI extremely low. You can also add vanilla or maple, if you wish. All the best, > > I haven't tried the almond milk yet. I think the last > time I looked at it in the stores I saw that it > contained one of the no-no ingredients .
