Guest guest
We have been on the GFCF diet for a little over a month. We haven't even removed all of the gluten (I know it is in our soap and shampoo....which we will replace as we find replacements). I notice better eye contact from our son, where it used to be a vacant stare, now it appears that someone is in there and he is staring back at you and he is there. He is more alert. He has conversations more, and about more varied things. He has been really good about bathing once a week. Before, he would only bathe every 2-6 months. He has brushed his teeth more often. Part of this is also that we bought him an xbox 360 and required him to bathe and brush. Before GFCF, he had horrible acne, and a face rash that oozed like a huge blister, about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide on one of his cheeks. It was on his face for the past 8 months. The acne is way better, but his face still has blemishes, but it is about 80% less redness and the blemishes are smaller. The facial blister has healed, and somedays I can't see the red demarcation from it, but days like today, the area 3x1 where the blister used to be still looks red, but the blister is all healed up. I think in a while staying GFCF, his face will heal all the way and the redness will diminish. My husband says the blister might be going because he is bathing more, but I think GFCF is helping a lot. My son seems fine with taking enzymes once a week to cheat even though he is sensitive to aspergillus. He tested positive for lead on his hair test. I just found out that the Dan Doc we were going to go to that I was going to put so much of our hope in, is not very good. I have decided to proceed without a doctor. So, I am going to first get our son on the supplements he needs, probiotics and such. It is kind of overwhelming to know where to begin on that....He will do much better swallowing a pill than to take a shake, as long as the pill is about the same size as an echinachea capsule. Our son went to the dentist today. He has no cavities (hasn't brushed but about twenty times in four years and no cavities???). He is going to be fitted for a mouthguard. He had tenderness in his jaw and popping. According to the compatability test, he is too sensitive to metals to have any metal braces. She said the mouthguard will ease the coming in of all of the teeth as they crowd. She said he had candida on his tongue. He is going to have a teeth cleaning next time. The dentist told us to rinse his mouth with 1/2 tsp of sea salt in 4oz of warm water per day. His breath is off the rictor, but he is allergic to mint, and cannot use most mouthwash. He was perfect at the dentist, and cooperative (he has refused to go for the past 4 years). Afterwards, we went to Microcenter where he walked around and shopped like a normal shopper, and appeared normal, except for the 3ft long hair and pajama pants. I noticed that he got much less " stares " from people than he usually gets on the rare times when he goes out. He picked out a keyboard and a broadband booster. A funny story, someone watched him select his keyboard, and watched him discuss with us the awesomeness of the keyboard, then they picked up the same one that he picked. (he hasn't left the house in months and months). Two days ago he went out of the house and across the street to a friends house (rare). Then, my husband took him out to eat at a restaurant after the dentist. We all sat around and ate out (haven't done this in about four years). Our son had conversations with us and seemed almost normal. I am amazed. It is like getting back a little bit of the son we lost, who has been gone since he regressed at around age 10-12 when puberty hit. My husband ordered him stuff with gluten and casein in it....without enzymes. Then, our son barfed all over the car twenty minutes after eating....but he says it is from the breath mint that made him nauseous that we gave him before the dentist. He is allergic to mint. I made my husband clean it up, and he did clean up 95% of it. Thanks for listening.
Guest guest
That's all incredibly positive - it's clearly making a huge difference. It does sound as if he's going to need to be gf/cf for a good few years, if not for ever so in your shoes I'd change everything now, shampoo, soaps, anywhere it lurks. Then you won't have regressions. It's easier than it sounds, particularly now you can get GF pasta, bread, pizza bases etc. (although watch out that he doesn't go on a carb overload, left to his own devices Tom would eat rice cakes all day long) SOunds very exciting you must be thrilled! Guest guest
That's great stuff ! It sounds like your son is a real responder. I'll bet with the right supplements you'll see even better stuff. Thanks for sharing :-) Anita > > We have been on the GFCF diet for a little over a month. Guest guest
> Before GFCF, he had horrible acne, I get acne when I eat foods I don't tolerate. I use HNI enzymes to address most of those foods, but there are still a few I need to avoid, or only eat in small quantities, to avoid the acne issue. http://www.houstonni.com/ > while staying GFCF, his face will heal all the way and the redness will > diminish. Watch for other foods you might also need to remove, or address with enzymes. > Our son went to the dentist today. He has no cavities (hasn't brushed but > about twenty times in four years and no cavities???). My son had no cavities either, which I learned was because he was calcium toxic. I had to give IP6 [a demineralizer] to reduce his calcium levels. Now at his most recent dentist appt, he has " shadows of possible decay " , so I added a little cal/mag, and things are improving. >>She said the mouthguard will ease the coming in of all of > the teeth as they crowd. Are his teeth coming in " shark style " , where the baby ones don't fall out? My son had that problem also, which was also caused by calcium toxicity, because now that the calcium is reduced, his baby teeth are starting to fall out normally. >>She said he had candida on his tongue. Yeast ideas http://www.danasview.net/yeast.htm >>His breath is off > the rictor, but he is allergic to mint, and cannot use most mouthwash. For me, bad breath was caused by eating foods I don't tolerate, and bad bacteria overgrowth. > He was perfect at the dentist, and cooperative (he has refused to go for the > past 4 years).
