Guest guest
Hi there- I am thinking that your questions are related to what the Doctor would recommend for " an abnormal Genetic Result " ..... This is hard to answer.... because it truly DEPENDS on what the Chromosomal issue is. Every person/child is different..... and there are numerous types of Genetic differences. This is Jennie's question to answer..... yet... I can also give some input..... (hope this is ok Jennie).... because my Son also had an abnormal result. Jennie- it sounds like you were told that Logan's deletion is associated with severe speech delay..... Did your Genetics Doc tell you about ALL the missing genes involved? Each missing gene has a function..... it sounds like a deletion in the area where Logan's is has already been studied. Please ask for a copy of the Genetic rReport..... it is important to know if ALL of the genes in the region of Logan's deletion have been studied. Genetic testing becomes more advanced as time goes on.... I feel it is VERY important to know about each and every gene that is missing in a deletion..... If they have not been studied today... they will be in the future. I typed my Genetics Report word for word in an e-mail to Hyung-Goo Kim (the Researcher of the Study that I mentioned)...... he responded back with MORE detailed info about the " missing genes " .... info that I did not get from the Genetics Department at our local University! BETHUSA... the really awesome concept about genetic testing is that it can give you ANSWERS. In Jennie's case.... it seems like she was told that other kids who have a similar deletion to her Son have certain issues. Jennie now KNOWS that her Logan has a genetic predisposition to the issues that he has.... and most likely, she has Logan involved in ST, etc. to HELP these issues. Even better..... Jennie is doing all of this while her child is young...... she is helping her son by doing what she does! Genetic Testing is very controversial..... there is a " Religion vs Science " argument going on.... Some believe that we should accept ourselves as " God made Us " ...... Many feel.... " why do it-- it won't change anything " . I personally disagree with this form of thinking..... I feel that Genetic Testing can HELP.... and it can also save lives. In our case..... the Genetic testing DID NOT explain my Son's delays..... BUT.... it DID show that my husband and Son share the same deletion. We now know that my husband and Son will be predisposed to Aneurysms when older. I am a RN..... I know that Aneurysms can occur with NO SYMPTOMS..... and then...... they burst..... and then..... people die suddenly...... My husband just turned age 50..... and when we heard the results..... he was ordered an Echocardiogram. It was normal.... My husband will continue to have Echocardiograms done for the rest of his life..... if an Aneurysm is found in early stages.... it will be treated..... this will possibly save his life! Another medical example that I want to mention is my Cousin . 's mom died of Breast Cancer at age 38. was only 8 years old when she lost her mom. Many people from 's Grandfather's side of the family were dying of cancer at young ages.... even babies! went for testing..... and found out that she was positive for a mutation on Chromosome #17..... with the BRCA1 Gene.... She now knows that she has a high risk of developing either Breast or Ovarian Cancer. She is planning on having a Prophylactic Mastectomy .... and is considering having her Ovaries removed as well. She first must decide if she wants to have children..... and she must make this decision quickly. Her knowledge of Genetics... in essence.... will possibly save her life! In regard to our kids.... we all want to do all that we can for them..... Six months ago, I never would have thought that I would be giving my Son a Nutritional Supplement that I ordered from an Online Website..... I read all of the posts about the NV here..... HOW could I NOT try this? Ayurvedic Concepts were just as " foreign to me " as " Genetic Testing " is to others. BUT- I ordered the NV..... TO HELP MY SON.... based on the Positive experiences of others! My opinion was this..... " if this will not HARM my Son..... and if it will possibly HELP him.... then why not try it " ? We have had great results with the NV! BETHUSA-- my point in this long note is that we, as parents, can NEVER GIVE UP...... we need to find out all that we can about our kids.... to HELP them! The more we know.... the stronger we can be as advocates! Kind regards from
