But we here at the Association for Special Children and Families (ASCF) are hard at work finding ways to help you secure an appropriate education for the child with special needs to be successful. We are offering you valuable workshops at no cost that will help parents advocate for their child and for others to understand what the special education process involves. On Tuesday April 13 at 7 PM we will host Inclusion and the Least Restrictive Environment which gives an overview of the IEP process and stresses the value of inclusion, presented by SPAN. On Wednesday, April 14, at 7 PM we will have Transition, Basic Information that will help you understand what must be included in the student's IEP. On Tuesday, April 20 at 10 AM we will offer Preparing a Binder of Your Child's Records. Learn how to organize all those reports and paperwork to be prepared for meetings. All workshops are held at Hillcrest Community Center, (Room 18), 1810 Macopin Road in West Milford. Please call 973-728-8744 or email us at ASCFamily@... to register. Apr. 14 th 7pm Transition planning has been a part of the NJ special education regulations since 1988; however, there is still confusion around it's intent and implementation. Some of the transition terms and concepts presented in the 1997 IDEA amendments cause uncertainty. An explanation is an attempt to provide clarification when developing a student's IEP. It is hoped that this will help parents understand and optimize some of the transition requirements that must be included in students' IEPs. Basic Rights in Special Education Tue. May 18 th 10 am This workshop provides families with an introduction to their rights and responsibilities as parents of children with special needs.
