Guest guest
Hi there. My name is and I am new to the group. I have a 25 month old son who has been in speech therapy for 6 months for an expressive speech delay and was just recently diagnosed with a sensory processing disorder. I just bought the book " The Late Talker " and after reading it cover to cover in the last two days, I believe that he may actualley show signs of Apraxia. I plan to talk to my SLP tomorrow at our regular appointment and go over my notes and thoughts with her. Our current treatment is once a week speech therapy and once a week OT in a sensory gym for the SPD. I am absolutely intrigued and hopeful after reading about the successes some children have showed after the omega 3 fatty acid supplementation. I am sure there are 1 million posts about it and I did find quite a few, but I need help as someone just beginning. 1) What brand? Where can I buy it? I am happy to buy it online and will pay whatever I have to. I am just wondering what the best brand is and where to buy it? How do you decide on Coromega vs. Efalex vs. ProEFA? Trial and error? 2) What is the starting dose? I saw so many different answers in so many posts that my head is spinning! What is the most common, safe place to start in terms of dosage? 3) How to you get a toddler to eat them? I know when I take my own DHA/EPA supplement I sometimes get that fishy aftertaste. I cannot imagine actually tasting the oil in my mouth. If I mix it in juice will it still be fishy? Is there a gummy type option? He takes a gummy multivitamin now and we don't have any trouble, so that may work too. He isn't a terribly picky eater so for all I know it is just me that is squeamish about the idea of eating straight fish oil. :-) Any suggestions or ideas will be helpful!! I guess that is it for now. I am so glad to have found this book and this group for more information and support. I feel like my heart breaks a little more each day as I watch my baby struggle with...well everything these days I guess. I am desperate for him to start to show some signs of improvement. Thanks in advance for all of your help! Swingle
