Guest guest
ON the topic of school supplies and particularly binders: is left-handed. So we are going with thick 3-ring punched notebooks that don't have a coil, so he can write easily. If he uses loose leaf, he has to take it out of the binder to write on it. Last year, his desk wasn't big enough to place both the binder and a sheet of paper on it ... also he is supposed to turn the paper the left-handed way. Hopefully there will be somewhere for him to tuck his binder this year. If not, not a horrible big deal as the ones I bought are by, I think, " Dura Tech " and they have a colorful spine and thick, clear plastic front and back, that is absolutely flat. His sister used one last year, and she actually is going to get another year out of it! / 4makelas@... However, we have a class at our school aimed at helping students who might not otherwise be successful in school. The content of the course is helping students be more organized, learn study skills, etc.. The students are required to keep a binder with tabs for each course and the teachers in this special class help them stay organized. In fact, these students' other teachers are required to accept this organization of their work. It really does seem to help them to do better. A portion of their grade for this class is how well they kept this folder. So--if something like this class is available, THEN the tab/binder/multiple folder idea works beautifully. Otherwise let the stuffing begin and be prepared to unstuff each day if you want to help your child be organized. Debbie in NC

Guest guest
My 12 year old is going into middle school also. He only needs pens/pencils and a notebook until he starts and they tell him what to get. Pam
Guest guest
I thought that there was a " funny " item on Will's list of school supplies, he is going into the preschool disabled class. He needs a backpack that can hold his extra clothes, lunch box (for snack), and his papers. Now here's the funny part, he has to be able to get it on and off by himself. LOL! He can't do that with an empty backpack! They also said put pants with elastic waistbands f he can't fasten them himself. I want him to learn how to snap his pants. Guest guest
I don't really see the humor, but I think you might've been being a bit sarcastic. Hopefully he will soon learn to get the backpack on and off. I was amazed last year when they taught who was just 2. As for the snaps it might save time to use elastic bands. Are they working on potty training? However make sure they have the goal on the IEP and find out how they will be working on it. Glorified babysitting is not going to cut it w/ these kids. I'd watch closely. a Now here's the > funny part, he has to be able to get it on and off by himself. LOL! He can't > do that with an empty backpack!
