Guest guest
Hi Andy, We have been chelating my ASD 3 year old with DMPS for 9 months. Just recently his typical 4 yr old brother had some odd syptoms enough for a Mom with a child on the spectrum to be concerned. I brought him to see our Dr. and she thought yes he should have a full work-up. He showed very high lead and began treatment. He is truly not on the spectrum but quirky sometimes. ( most people wouldn't even notice even my husband thought I was nuts until he saw that my ASD son and NT 4 yr. son had every test result exactly the same. From hair to minerals to blood work without looking at the name you couldn't tell who's was who's. Since we had been using DMPS my ASD son never really excreted any lead (small amounts in urine and small amounts in blood only. Now that we are treating both boys for lead my ASD son is making remarkable progress(and blood lead is very high still very little in hair). We had our house tested for lead by a reputable company and they found none. I suspect the lead exposure was when lived in an older home for 2 months that my husband's company relocated us to when our new house was being built. It had asbestos tile and I'm sure lead too. At the time my ASD son was 7 months crawling all over and had constant ear infections, on antibiotics and tylenol the whole time plus had gotten a round of imunizations shortly afterward. My 2 year old wasn't sick but at the time looking back was acting kind of strange in that house. After we moved he was back to himself. Just recently he has begun to act strange again and that is why we had him tested too. My question is could a lead exposure almost 3 years prior just start to surface with symptoms now? My NT son has no IQ problems actually he is very advanced and learned to read at 4 yrs. old. All his problems are with fine motor and gross motor skills. Not that any one else would notice, but for instance no matter how hard he trys he can't ride a bike. His hand writing is terrible, hard for him to even hold a pencil. And when all the other kids are at the park running up the slides and climbing monkey bars it takes him twice as long as he goes slow and always very cautious. I know you love DMSA something we haven't tried yet. We are doing IV- EDTA pushes every other week fo both boys( and it is working really well on pulling lead) I have an appt. with our next week to go over what else to do or in place of the IV. The IV was supposed to be just a challenge, but since it worked so well for my ASD son I wanted to do more and he is having great progress, so much more than the whole nine months on DMPS. I know we are not going to do IV forever so we need to get them on a different protocal. She is not really sure yet of the exact protocal for them. She is very open to options and advice on what is the best treatment for my boys. We need a lead specialist. Do you know of such a person? Also could my ASD child just have lead poising just very severe and not mercury. On DMPS he did excrete small amounts of mercury in urine in the early months, and then at 6 months a large amount in stool only( no improvement at that point) but just last testing at month 9 no mercury. Is the lead hiding mercury? Besides mercury my child has had many other elevated metals too. And now we are finding my 4 year to have the same elevated metals as my ASD son. What do you think about lead, ASD children, and an effective way to get the lead out? I have your 1st book and just this week ordered your second, but still waiting for it to come. I know in that book you have a lot more info on other toxic metals besides mercury, info that we need. In the mean time do you have any ideas for my boys. p.s. Both my boys do not meet counting rules for mercury, but are very suspicious since neither excretes either mercury or any other metals in their hair. It basically a blank page with a few blips here and there. They metals they do excrete in hair are very very low. Aluminium being highest at 3 with a reference range of <8. If it would help figure out anything I could post the hair tests, but both have been supplementing with minerals previously. Thank you in advance for any input. Guest guest
No I had my whole house tested for lead and a whopping $1000 bill to prove it. Plus it wasn't showing up in hair or blood. It just has started showing up in high amounts in blood once we added the EDTA which leads me to think it was a past exposure. > Do you have any stripped wood, which might have been painted with lead paint in the past? Guest guest
Margie, I'm not Andy, but I'm told Dr. Holmes's son excreted lead (while on DSMA) for a long time before beginning to pour out mercury. Guest guest
I have a very similar situation. My older son also has some fine motor and gross motor skills, also cannot ride a bike, but still very " normal " . Their tests were very similar as well. Here's where my lead was coming from....my plates! I couldn't believe it! I bought a bunch of lead test kits from home depot and tested everything. When I tested my dinnerware, I couldn't believe I got a positive. I contancted the manufacturer, Sakura dinnerware and he advised me that under current FDA guidelines that if dinnerware has anysort of a pattern/decal on it, they can legally have a certain amount of lead and cadmium in them. Both of which showed up extremely high in both of my boys. Of course he cannot tell me if my particular plates are within the legal limits, but has agreed to test them if I send him a set. I'm going to, but in addition, I want to send them to a lab to be analyzed. Does anyone know of a good one? Thanks, Debbie > Margie, > I'm not Andy, but I'm told Dr. Holmes's son excreted lead (while on DSMA) > for a long time before beginning to pour out mercury. > Barb > [ ] High Lead / ANDY > > > > > > > > Hi Andy, > > > > We have been chelating my ASD 3 year old with DMPS for 9 months. > > Just recently his typical 4 yr old brother had some odd syptoms > > enough for a Mom with a child on the spectrum to be concerned. Guest guest
I use glass. I know that if you have acidy foods like tomatoes that the lead will leach out the lead easier.
