Your insurance should outright say whether it covers orthognathic surgery,

and in my understanding, it should be covered if your doctor can make a

strong case for its medical necessity, not cosmetic purpose. I had my

surgery 10/5/05, and fought my insurance company for months. Finally the

Friday before (my surgery was a Monday), my insurance company said that they

reversed their initial denial, and would now cover it. I fought the

insurance company through phone calls nearly every day since the day they

denied it initially (the end of July), all the way through to my surgery

date. My insurance co. UnitedHealthcare, covered orthognathic surgery, and

my surgery was blatently medically necessary, so in my and my surgeon's

opinion, there was no reason this shouldnt be covered. In my case, it was

totally worth it, as the total bill for my surgery was nearly $30,000!
