Surgical Elastics-->Are they supposed to hurt?

Hi all,

I am almost 3 weeks post op now and have had removeable elastics for 2

weeks. I noticed tonight that when I took them off, my gums were

really bleeding. I have to wear 2 elastics...on on either side that

starts approx 3 tooth from middle on top and goes back to second last

tooth on top..then stretched to second last tooth on bottom back to

3rd from middle on the bottom. Now I see that they might be cutting

into my gums. Also, you know when you first have braces..how

sometimes your gum s swell in places and kinda overlap your tooth from

the sqeezing...well my gums are doing that where the elastics are! Is

this normal???? Help!
