Clare on IVs and such

No matter what Clare, when you have a surgery, you have an IV,

standard. That is how they knock you out. I am a big baby about IVs

because I've had bad experiences with my veins collapsing. I told my

OS this and he gave me a " happy pill. " I took it a little while

before I got to the hospital and was all mellow. Then, when the nurse

tried and failed to get an IV in me, I didn't even really care. After

that, she went and got me a shot to further mellow me out, wheeled me

into the operating room, and the anesthesiologist had no problem in

then starting the IV and giving me my meds to zonk me out. It's

really not that bad. I'm pretty sure NG tubes are standard, and

probably urinary catheters, but you ARE NOT awake when they put these

in and are usually asleep when they take out the tube from your nose.

The urinary one isn't even noticeable, and when they take it out it

isn't that bad. Talk to your OS to find out about your " happy pill. "

And also about what else they'll be hooking up to you. You should be

having a questions visit a few days before the surgery right? Ask him

then. That part of it isn't to bad. Take care.
